Complementing the company's SN820x product family, Murata have announced the introduction of the SN8000 WiFi 11n module. Offering increased flexibility, the WiFi module enables Broadcom’s WICED WiFi solution to be run on customer-selected STMicroelectronics' STM32 based ARM Cortex M3 and M4 microcontrollers rather than a preselected platform.

An industrial grade, 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11b/g/n WiFi module, the SN8000 has evolved from the Broadcom BCM43362 chipset. Designed for both indoor and outdoor sensing and control, the device offers a cost-effective solution for home automation, industrial control, Smart Energy, medical, and healthcare applications.

The SN8000 integrates the WiFi IC, RF front end, temperature-compensated crystal oscillator and an on-board antenna. For use with external antennae, Murata offers the SN8000UFL footprint compatible version with an U.FL connector. Operating over a temperature range from -40 to +85°C, the WiFi module features a transmit power of +18dBm, a maximum receive sensitivity of -96dbm at 11Mb/s and typical power consumption of 70-315mA (at 25°C and 3.6V).

“The demand for wireless sensing and connectivity in the microcontroller environment has certainly been a market-driver. This expansion underscores both Murata’s success with the SN820X product family and our ability to leverage product development. As such, we can deliver solutions that blend advanced technology and features to reach a broader market and offer more value to our customers,” comments Mehul Udani, General Manager, Connectivity Solutions, Murata.

Supplied in an FCC certified LGA package, the RoHS compliant SN8000 WiFi module features dimensions of 24.0x11.4x1.9mm.
