World's Highest Capacitance! Murata Launches Mass-production of GCJ Series Monolithic Ceramic Capacitors with Resin External Electrode for Automotive Applications Up to 150°C
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has launched mass production of monolithic ceramic capacitor with a resin external electrode for automotive applications that has X8L characteristics*1 and is designed for use in applications up to 150°C. The GCJ series capacitor is available in a 3225 package and has a capacitance value of 10µF (rated voltage 25V) . This new product is the world's first capacitor with a resin external electrode that features X8L characteristics. This 3225-size GCJ series capacitor provides the world's highest capacitance value.
In rFurthermore, there are cases where capacitors are mounted on a lead frame*2 in order to achieve size and weight reduction of the devices. As a result, there is the need for capacitors with a fail-safe function to prevent short-circuit even when bending stress is applied to these devices. The resin absorbs mechanical stress when a circuit board is bent and the mechanical strength can be improved by using resin for the electrodes.

Terminology
*1 X8L characteristics:
Characteristics that provide a capacitance variation of +15/-40% in the range between -55°C and 150°C.
*2 Lead frame:
Used in a semiconductor package such as an IC. This is a component that secures the semiconductor chip and connects the chip to external wiring.
