AVX Adds Several New Varistors To Its Trusted Transguard & Transguard Automotive Series
AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of advanced passive components and interconnect solutions, has added several new varistors to its trusted TransGuard and TransGuard Automotive Series. Based on AVX’s reliable zinc-oxide varistor technology, the extended TransGuard series provide customers with a much broader range of voltage and energy rating options than were previously available, significantly expanding both the number and type of applications for which the series are an ideal solution.
Both“Demonstrating only negligible degradation in breakdown voltage and minimal increases in leakage current after repeated high-current pulsing, TransGuard Series varistors consistently outperform the competition and have thus been very well-received,” said Jiri Machanicek, Technical Marketing Manager at AVX. “Consequently, AVX has extended both series with additional voltage and energy rating options designed to provide an even broader range of applications with trusted transient voltage suppression solutions.”
AVX’s TransGuard and TransGuard Automotive Series varistors exhibit a peak current up to 2000A, transient energy up to 12J, and low leakage currents under standard DC operating conditions. Both series are also available with Ni/Sn-plated terminations for lead free soldering or with Pd/Ag terminations for hybrid assembly.
TransGuard -Series varistors are available in 0201 to 2220 surface-mount case sizes, as well as with radial and axial leads. Exhibiting a working voltage range of 3.3–85VDC, the series is ideal for a wide range of professional, industrial, and commercial applications.
TransGuard Automotive Series varistors are available in 0402 to 2220 surface-mount case sizes, as well as with radial leads. Featuring a working voltage range of 5.6-85VDC, the AEC-Q200-qualified series exhibits high current and high energy handling capabilities, multi-strike capability, and <1nS response to ESD strikes, which makes it extremely well-suited for protecting against automotive transients in wide range of applications, including: safety applications (airbags, ABS, etc.), body electronics (ECU, sensors, etc.), drive train (water pump, power steering, etc.), comfort and convenience (electric mirror, audio, etc.), and hybrid and electric vehicles (engine start/stop, electric drive, etc.).
