3G/4G LTE Gigabit backhaul system on show at EuMW
At European Microwave Week 2014, in booth 152, Infineon is presenting a full system design for the wireless connection of base stations to the corresponding base station controller of a mobile communications network. Based on Infineon’s E-/V-band transceiver family, the wireless backhaul system design offers maximum flexibility and competitiveness by allowing network operators to continuously upgrade in the field.
The solution was created in a joint effort between Infineon, GreenWaves, Escape Communications and Altera. GreenWaves developed the RF front-end (featuring an additional power amplifier for transmission ranges of several kilometres) based on Infineon’s BGT70 and BGT80 E-band transceivers; and Escape Communications successfully integrated this RF front-end with their 250MHz modem module, based on Altera FPGAs.
Philipp von Schierstaedt, Vice President and General Manager, Business Line Radio Frequency and Sensors, Infineon Technologies, comments: “Millimetre-Wave-Backhaul is the key technology to quickly develop a cost efficient communication infrastructure for Gigabit data rates. Our strategic path from product thinking to system understanding leads to success: Together with GreenWaves, Escape and Altera we have leveraged system expertise to offer a compact and flexible solution for this highly attractive market.”
The BGTx0 E-band transceivers are supplied in a compact, plastic eWLB package and replace more than ten discrete devices. The transceivers integrate I/Q modulator, VCO, power amplifier, LNA, PGA, SPI control interface and more.
