Thin film chip resistors reduce thermal resistance
Offering power ratings of 2 and 6W in compact 1206 and 2512 case sizes, the PCAN series of high-power, surface-mount precision thin film chip resistors has been announced by Vishay Intertechnology. The aluminium nitride substrates of the resistors have enlarged backside terminations in order to reduce the thermal resistance between the topside resistor layer and the solder joint on the end user's circuit assembly.
iPad app provides direct link to passive components
An app allowing for the easy access of Vishay Intertechnology's Super 12 and Engineer's Toolbox collections has been made available for the iPad. Vishay's Super 12 brings together a dozen key semiconductor and passive components featuring improved technologies that can significantly improve the performance of end products and systems.
Arrays feature gold terminations for conductive gluing
Featuring gold terminations for conductive gluing, the ACAS 0606 ATAU resistor array has been introduced by Vishay Intertechnology. The resistor arrays combines high-temperature operation to 155°C with relative tolerance down to ±0.05%, as well as relative TCR down to ±5 ppm/K. The company claims that the resistor arrays enable significantly more accurate performance than two high-precision discrete resistors.
Ceramic disc safety capacitors target EVs and PHEVs
Providing high reliability for Class X1 (440V AC) and Y2 (300V AC) automotive applications, Vishay announces the AY2 series of AC-line-rated ceramic disc safety capacitors. These AEC-Q200-qualified devices are optimised for on-board chargers and battery management in electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), as well as high-reliability industrial applications.
IR receivers lower data transmission costs & simplify design
Two miniaturised infrared (IR) receivers, designed specifically for low-speed data transmission, has been launched by Vishay Intertechnology. Designated the TSDP34138/56 and TSDP34338/56, the IR receivers are optimised for low-complexity, low-cost signaling in metering, sensor, automation, and gaming applications.
Resistors offer improved thermo cycling performance
With devices now available in the 0406 and 1225 case sizes, Vishay Intertechnology has extended the RCL e3 series of long side termination thick film chip resistors. The AEC-Q200 qualified RCL e3 series features enhanced thermo cycling performance for automotive electronic circuits and general purpose applications.
AEC-Q101 qualified proximity & ambient light sensor
An AEC-Q101-qualified, fully integrated proximity and ambient light optical sensor with an industry-high operating temperature range to +105°C was announced by Vishay. The VCNL4020X01 combines an IR emitter, a photo-pin-diode for proximity, an ambient light detector, a signal processing IC, and a 16-bit ADC in one small 4.8x2.3x0.8mm rectangular lead-less (LLP) package.
Surface-mount MLCCs offer high Q for RF applications
Vishay Intertechnology has announced the addition of a high-power surface-mount multilayer ceramic chip capacitor (MLCC) in the quad 2525 case size to its QUAD HIFREQ series. The MLCCs are designed for high-frequency RF applications in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) coils and generators, RF instrumentation, telecomms base stations, lasers and military communications systems.

Offering designers a convenient drop-in replacement for competing solutions, Vishay Intertechnology have launched the Vishay Milwaukee GRE1 grid resistors. The high power, high current devices combine high power ratings to 6.5 kW and high operating temperatures to +400 °C with a robust design.

Providing high accuracy in precision, high-voltage instrumentation and amplifiers, Vishay Intertechnology announces the HVPS series of through-hole single-in-line thin film resistors. Designed to save space and increase power efficiency in portable electronics, Vishay has claimed that the SiA453EDJ provides the industry's lowest RDS(ON) at -4.5 and -2.5V gate drives for a -30V device in the 2x2mm footprint area. This -30V, 12V VGS p-channel TrenchFET power MOSFET is supplied in an ultracompact, thermally enhanced PowerPAK SC-70 package.
