Approval for its cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) protocol conformance testing package, fulfilling the specification defined by the Global Certification Forum (GCF) has been announced by Rohde & Schwarz. The approval is based on tests executed using the R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester and R&S SMBV100A vector signal generator.

Developers of electronic control units (ECUs) with an automotive Ethernet interface must perform tests to ensure that their devices work properly. However, if problems occur during signal transmission, plain Ethernet protocol analysis is not adequate in most cases. Hard on the heels of Bluetooth SIG ratifying its core specification version 5.1 in late January, Rohde & Schwarz is now launching the first test solution as a software upgrade for the R&S CMW test platform. The test solution for Bluetooth 5.1 can be used to verify the performance of the location services that have been significantly improved with the new Bluetooth specification.

Most network operators will implement 5G New Radio (NR) as an extension of their existing LTE mobile network (NSA). As a result, mobile devices will have to function in both worlds simultaneously. So Rohde & Schwarz has developed the R&S CMX500, a radio communication tester for 5G NR that can be seamlessly integrated into an existing LTE test environment.

5G devices operating in the mmWave range (FR2), such as smartphones and tablets, require over-the-air (OTA) testing since these devices usually have no RF port or interface to connect to, and conducted tests are therefore not possible. Rohde & Schwarz will introduce new products for RF parametric testing in both the FR1 and FR2 frequency ranges at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (February 25-28).

At MWC 2019 in Barcelona (February 25-28) Commsolid (a Goodix company) will present an IoT reference design integrating its NB-IoT and Bluetooth SOCs. The manufacturer uses the R&S CMW290 IoT radio communication testers for RF and functional testing of both transmission methods.

MediaTek and Rohde & Schwarz are collaborating to perform over-the-air (OTA) tests of MediaTek’s 5G frontend modules and antenna arrays. The R&S TS8980R&D-M1 test system, which includes the new R&S ATS1800C CATR (compact antenna test range) chamber, will be used to fully characterise, verify and test the antenna performance of MediaTek’s 5G network solutions including its Helio M70 5G modem.
