Silicon diodes are 'world's fastest'

A series of 150V silicon diodes, claimed to be the fastest in the world, has been introduced by Power Integrations. According to the company, the Qspeed–based LQA150 diodes have the lowest junction capacitance and reverse recovery charge on the market, which are respectively 60% and 40% lower than trench Schottky devices.

PSU design tool is now accessible as a cloud-based app

A PSU design tool, developed by Power Integrations, is now accessible as a cloud-based app. Previously, designers could only download the PI Expert Suite to a local PC or workstation. The cloud-based app allows designers to access the design tool from any internet browser, ensuring that they are using the most up-to-date version.

High power LED lighting reference design released

A reference design for LED streetlights, high-bay lights and other high power LED lighting applications has been announced by Power Integrations. RDR-382 describes a constant current, 43V (nominal), 150W reference power supply for 90-265VAC solid-state lighting, utilising the company's HiperPFS-2 PFC controller ICs and HiperLCS integrated LLC power stage ICs.

By integrating primary and secondary feedback circuits, the InnoSwitch IC family is set to revolutionise switch-mode power supply design, says Power Integrations. The ICs use FluxLink safety-isolated communication technology, which combines primary - and secondary-switcher circuitry to reduce component count.

Discharge ICs are certified for TVs & IT equipment

  Power Integrations has revealed that the CAPZero two-terminal, automatic X-capacitor discharge ICs have been certified to meet the IEC 62368. Replacing IEC 60950 and IEC 60065, the IEC 62368 safety standard covering TVs and IT equipment will soon become mandatory.

Switching ICs meet US DoE EPS efficiency regulations

A series of switching ICs suitable for mobile devices which are subject to 30mW no-load limitations, has been released by Power Integrations. The LinkSwitch-3 series delivers primary-side regulation for chargers and adapters up to 10W, making them suitable for smartphones and tablets which are subject to upcoming mandatory US DoE EPS efficiency regulations and EU CoC Tier 2 guidelines.

Power Integrations granted injunction against Fairchild

Power Integrations has announced that a Federal District Court in Delaware has granted its request for another permanent injunction against Fairchild Semiconductor. The ruling follows a 2012 jury verdict in which approximately 80 Fairchild products were found to violate three of Power Integrations’ patents.

LED driver IC allows CC control to detect operation mode

PCIM 2014: With a high, universal input range to suit consumer and enterprise use around the globe, the LYTSwitch-2 LED driver IC from Power Integrations is based around a monolithic silicon transistor, operating at 725V. The IC delivers up to 12W of controlled output power and reduces component count to just 23, for smaller, more reliable LED lighting design.

Power Integrations wins lawsuit against Fairchild Semiconductor

Power Integrations has announced a verdict in one of its ongoing patent infringement lawsuits against Fairchild Semiconductor. After a month-long trial in federal district court in San Francisco, a jury found that Fairchild willfully infringed two of Power Integrations’ patents, and awarded Power Integrations damages of $105 million.

Power Integrations introduce a new family of power ICs, which combine two-switch-forward and flyback power-supply controller ICs with integrated high-voltage MOSFETs. Discharge ICs meet mandatory IEC safety regulations

Power Integrations' new CAPZero automatic X-capacitor discharge IC has been certified to meet IEC CTL DSH 1080. This is the new mandatory addition to the Certification Body scheme of the IEC60950 and IEC60065 standards governing X-capacitor discharge safety regulations. Simple SO-8-packaged two-terminal devices, the CAPZero ICs only require discharge resistors to automatically implement the X-capacitor discharge function.

Low-Cost LED Drivers Target GU10 Bulbs

Power Integrations is driving down the cost of LED drivers with the launch of its LYTSwitch-0 ICs. The ICs target cost-sensitive, non-isolated, non-dimmable GU10 bulbs and other space-constrained bulb applications.
