Plessey to exhibit at Europe's largest lighting event
Plessey has announced that it will be exhibiting at LuxLive, Europe's biggest annual lighting event, 18th to 19th November at London's ExCeL arena. This will be the second year exhibiting for the UK-based LED manufacturer, where it will demonstrate a number of lighting solutions designed around its award winning GaN-on-Silicon technology for the solid state lighting market.
Chip scale optics developed for GaN-on-Si LEDs
Plessey has developed a patented technology for Chip Scale Optics (CSOs) based on its GaN-on-Si MaGIC LEDs. CSOs enable the design of light emission angles down to 10° direct from the LED. Having the primary optics on-chip eliminates the cost of primary optics typically found in packaged LEDs and CoB modules. Furthermore, it significantly lowers the cost and provides for far greater design freedom for secondary optics within a luminaire.
Team Plessey cycles to raise over £8,000 for Prostrate Cancer UK
Plessey announced recently that it raised £8,313 on 3rd September for Prostate Cancer UK with its 105-mile Tour of Devon. The 28 participants started and completed near the Plessey facilities in Plymouth on the edge of Dartmoor National Park in South Devon. The cycle route took them through Tavistock, Okehampton, Exeter, Bovey Tracy and Widecombe-in-the-Moor and included the Mamhead and Haytor climbs.
Plessey to exhibit at LuxLive 2015
Plessey has announced that it will be exhibiting at the LuxLive event from 18th to 19th November at London's ExCeL arena. LuxLive is Europe's biggest annual lighting event. Plessey will be showcasing its latest GaN on silicon LED solutions. This year, LuxLive will be co-located with Strategies in Light and the combined event will feature the best from the entire industry supply chain, ranging from chip manufacturing, through to design and end use...
Plessey wins £6.7m grant for LED production expansion
Plessey has announced that the Regional Growth Fund (RGF) has officially granted £6.7m towards the expansion of the Plessey LED manufacturing facility in Plymouth, England. Solid state lighting forms a significant part of global efforts to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Plessey retrofits Plymouth facility with MaGIC LED kits
Plessey has announced that it is retrofitting its manufacturing facility with LED modules designed using the company's GaN-on-Silicon MaGIC LEDs. The retrofit involves replacing aging fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent bulbs in existing fixtures to use new LED light modules produced in the same facility in Plymouth, Devon, UK.
GaN-on-Silicon LED die pump phosphor to a white colour range
Manufactured on the company's patented GaN-on-Silicon technology, Plessey has announced the release of its range of MaGIC LED die. The blue die, or blue pump for their ability to pump phosphor to a white colour range, are the latest innovation in high brightness LED die designed for medium to high power applications including general lighting, signage, commercial, residential and street lighting.
LED filaments manufactured with GaN-on-Silicon
Manufactured with the company's MaGIC GaN-on-Silicon LEDs, Plessey has announced the launch of a range of LED filaments. They are designed for the surging filament bulb market where these replacement lamps have far better performance, but still maintain the physical appearance of incandescent lamps.
Red, green & blue LED die suit wearable applications
Expanding its dotLED range, Plessey has announced a wider selection of colours, including red, green and blue. The extremely small LED die feature a footprint of only 0.2x0.2mm which makes them suitable for use in wearable applications.
Government grant to accelerate GaN-on-SiC LED technology
Plessey Semiconductors announced that it will be leading a £1.3m government funded project in conjunction with AIXTRON and Bruker Nano Surfaces Division. This project will accelerate high volume manufacturing of Plessey's innovative LEDs created with GaN-on-SiC technology at its Devon based manufacturing site.
