Resistors offer long-term stability for automotive applications

Panasonic Automotive & Industrial Systems will soon be launching a new range of current sensing resistors featuring ultra-low ohmic values down to 0.5mΩ and TCR values as low as 75ppm. Panasonic ERJMS4 and ERJMS6–series components offer high power ratings of up to 5W and in different case sizes (1206 till 2526). Based on metal plate bonding technology, the parts offer excellent long term stability.

Pressure sensors offer up to ±1.25% accuracy at 1,000kPa

Panasonic Automotive & Industrial Systems has introduced high-precision, miniature semiconductor pressure sensors that are available with built-in amplification and temperature compensation circuitry (PS-A units). Precision sensors without amplifier and open wheatstone measurement bridge are also available and in ultra-miniaturised sizes (PS). There are also versions with chamfered pins for improved ease of DIP pin insertion into PCBs.

Background suppression improves human proximity detection

A series of human detection proximity sensors have been unveiled by Panasonic Automotive & Industrial Systems which are 35% thinner (12.7 compared with 19.5mm) than previous versions and are also plug-and-play to ease installation. The MA Motion series feature built-in trigonometric background suppression, so they are unaffected by changing scenes or by people passing by outside the detection range.

Aluminium capacitor features low ESR

A low ESR conductive polymer aluminium capacitor with high temperature, ensuring the devices are suitable for demanding applications, have been introduced by Panasonic Automotive & Industrial Systems. Part of the SP Caps range, the HX series devices have an ESR down to 4.5mΩ and an operating temperature range from -55 to +125°C means that devices have a life of 10 years at +85°C, according to the company.

Synchronous buck DC/DC IC design

Besides the power efficiency, a key performance requirement for point of load power supply ICs is the transient performance. Sudden changes in the current drawn by the load (for example, an FPGA) require a fast response from the power supply. Such fast variations of the output current, however, cause transient spikes on the output voltage, whose amplitude and duration depend on the transfer function of the regulation loop.

Hybrid capacitors target high-reliability applications

Panasonic has introduced the ZC series of conductive polymer hybrid aluminium electrolytic capacitors with 45% higher ripple current. Suiting high-reliability and other applications which require low leakage, high capacitance and high stability, the 125°C hybrid capacitors feature a high-withstand voltage of 25-63V and low leakage current of 0.01 CV or 3µF.

Temperature & capacitance extensions added to EDLC range

Panasonic has improved and extended its portfolio of Gold Cap Electric Double Layer Capacitors (EDLC). Versions have been released which can operate at lower temperatures, suiting industrial applications, while other devices have been increased in capacitance. Stacked coin-type Gold Caps now feature an operating temperature range from -40 to +85°C.

Thermopile array sensor uses IR to detect temperature

Panasonic Automotive & Industrial has launched its first SMT thermopile array sensor. Grid-EYE features 64 thermopile elements in an 8x8 grid format that detect temperatures and temperature gradients by infrared radiation, providing thermal images. It is possible to detect multiple people and identify positions and direction of movement.

New low profile polymer capacitor family announced by Panasonic

Panasonic Automotive & Industrial Systems has introduced a new low profile version of its SP-Cap range of speciality conductive polymer aluminium capacitors. Measuring just 0.9mm above the PCB, the devices (LR & SR series) are rated from 2V up to 6.3V with capacitance values of 68 to 220μF. Capacitance tolerance is ±20% (120Hz / +20degC).
