NeutrORAN testbed used in UK 5G Open RAN trial
The UK Government and NEC have announced the launch of the NEC ‘NeutrORAN’ project, which will showcase the latest innovations in the Open Radio Access Network (RAN) space. The project will be used to test and demonstrate a multiple operator, neutral host solution using an Open RAN ecosystem.
NEC supports cyber crime Investigation Training
NEC Corporation and Cyber Defense Institute have announced their support for the INTERPOL Digital Security Challenge (DSC), a virtual cyber crime investigation event that took place from October 12th to 16th. iPASOLINK EX Advanced Dual promotes expansion of 5G
NEC has announced the global release of the iPASOLINK EX Advanced Dual, a 20Gbps radio for promoting the expansion of 5G. iPASOLINK EX Advanced Dual is the industry's first 20Gbps capacity solution in a single box, which lowers total cost of ownership (TCO) compared to conventional 10Gbps two box solutions. The iPASOLINK EX Advanced Dual supports extended spectrum density technology that doubles spectral efficiency in a single box.
OLL and NEC launch MIST cable system construction
Orient Link (OLL) and NEC Corporation (NEC) have announced that they have signed an agreement to build the MIST Cable System (MIST). MIST will directly connect Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and India (Mumbai and Chennai) and deliver a design capacity of more than 216 terabits per second (Tbps). Construction of the nearly 8,100km optical submarine cable is targeted to be completed by the third quarter of FY2022.
Providing Hawaii's airports with temperature screening
NEC and their partner, Infrared Cameras, were selected by the Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) to provide thermal temperature screening and facial recognition technology at Hawaii's public airports to help protect the community and identify passengers with a potentially elevated body temperature. The companies’ combined resources to submit a unified proposal for the project.

Fibre pair subsea telecom cable systems qualified
NEC Corporation and its subsidiary OCC Corporation have announced that they have completed full qualification of subsea repeaters and optical cable containing up to 20 fibre pairs (40 fibres). This is a 25% improvement in fibre count over 16 fibre pair systems previously built by NEC.

It has been announced by NEC Corporation that it has developed a ‘Person Re-identification Technology’ that is capable of matching images of people whose figures are partially hidden from cameras, even if the image is taken from behind or from the side.
High-definition video transmission test utilising 5G
Network technology specialist, NEC Corporation has contributed to a high-definition video transmission test utilising 5G with a high-speed train, conducted by NTT Communications, NTT DOCOMO and TOBU RAILWAY through the provision of a 5G base station. This test was conducted in Kasukabe City, Japan, using a train on the Tobu Skytree Line from December 17th to 21st, 2018.
