Software reduces manufacturing faults
ESCATEC is introducing its ESCADA software into its contract manufacturing facilities. ESCADA enables the data gathered at the testing phase to be intelligently used to reduce manufacturing faults. Pioneered and developed in its central European facility in Heerbrugg, Switzerland, last year, the specially written data analysis software will be installed at ESCATEC's high volume manufacturing facilities in Malaysia in 2015.

EMC test cell supports R&D business unit
ESCATEC has established a custom designed Electro-Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing cell in its facility in Heerbrugg, Switzerland. "The EMC cell provides a radio wave free environment to test products for unintentional generation of radio waves that could cause interference," said Michael Walser, Head of Global R&D at ESCATEC.

Wirelessly control machines with tablets and smartphones
A major problem with many machines is that the HMI is often a small basic control box with a small display and a few buttons that is hard to read and adjust. However, there is usually a USB port that engineers can plug into and link to a laptop for diagnostics and controlling settings. This can create a short-range WiFi link to a tablet or smartphone that runs a custom app to control the machine by using a USB stick.

ESCATEC installs $130,000 laser marker to improve PCB identification and traceability
ESCATEC has added a laser marking machine for PCB to its production facilities at Heerbrugg in Switzerland. The CO2 laser beam is used to change the surface structure of the solder resist to give a clear and permanent marking on the surface of the PCB. The marking can be for machine-readable codes as well as text, graphics and logos, which show up as white areas on the PCB.

ESCATEC has just completed a 2.5 million dollar (8 million ringgit) upgrade program at its contract manufacturing facility in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
