The launch of what is being named as the industry's first six stream 802.11ac MIMO platform for home networks has been announced by Broadcom. The 5G WiFi XStream is up to 50% faster than MU-MIMO routers and gateways, Broadcom claims.

Providing sub-meter accuracy on physical locations, Broadcom's 5G WiFi (802.11ac) SoC is being used to deliver pinpoint indoor positioning technology. The BCM43462 SoC, featuring Broadcom's new AccuLocate technology, enables retailers and public venue operators to deliver more personalized experiences to consumers.

Expanding the company's XLPII multi-core communications processor family, Broadcom has announced the XLP500 series with 32 NXCPUs and performance up to 80Gb/s. According to the manufacturer, the communications processor delivers up to four times the per-core performance of competing processors.

Enabling the deployment of cable services to millions of China cable subscribers, Inspur Group has selected Broadcom's BCM7583 HD SoC to power the company's set-top boxes (STBs). The SoC combines cost-effective design and high-performance capabilities, allowing operators to enhance services while reducing overall cost.

Broadcom introduce what they believe to be the industry's first 5G WiFi (802.11ac) 2x2 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) SoC for smartphones. The Broadcom BCM4354 SoC will enable manufacturers to deliver twice the WiFi performance of 1x1 MIMO devices used in smartphones today while improving system power efficiency up to 25% when using wireless applications.

Broadcom has completed the sale of certain Ethernet controller-related assets to QLogic for approximately $147m (USD) in cash. The sale includes certain 10/40/100Gb Ethernet controller-related assets and non-exclusive licenses to intellectual property relating primarily to the company's programmable NetXtreme II Ethernet controller family.

Broadcom have announced, what they claim is, the industry's first triple speed 10/40/100G Lite-PHY designed for high-density data center applications. Fabricated in 28nm CMOS technology, the BCM82322 Lite-PHY delivers the industry's highest port count density (12 full duplex ports) and reduces power up to 50%, consuming < 150mW per 10G full duplex port.
