AMD’s Lisa Su honoured with the 2024 imec Innovation Award

This accolade will be formally bestowed during the ITF World conference in Antwerp, Belgium, on May 21-22th, celebrating Dr. Su's significant contributions to the advancement of high-performance and adaptive computing technologies.

Since its establishment in 2016, the imec Innovation Award has served as a symbol of excellence, honouring innovators like Dr. Gordon Moore and Bill Gates who have made foundational impacts on the semiconductor industry.

Luc Van den hove, CEO of imec, expressed his enthusiasm about Dr. Su's recognition: “It’s an immense privilege to welcome Lisa Su to this distinguished group of industry luminaries. Since taking the helm of AMD in 2014, Dr. Su’s technological acumen and visionary leadership have propelled the company to the forefront of semiconductor technology development. Under her leadership, AMD has become one of the most respected developers of supercomputing chips – supporting the ever-evolving requirements of the data centre and gaming industries and fuelling the emergence of (generative) AI applications. This makes Dr. Su a truly deserving recipient of the 2024 imec Innovation Award.

“But equally important, Lisa Su is an outspoken advocate for the role women can play in the semiconductor industry. The fact that she actively encourages and empowers women to pursue engineering degrees and rewarding careers in the field resonates deeply with me. I therefore hope that this recognition will help inspire girls and women to pursue their passions in STEM.”

Prior to her role at AMD, Lisa Su held various pivotal positions at Texas Instruments, IBM, and Freescale Semiconductor, contributing significantly to semiconductor technologies. Since joining AMD in 2012 and taking on the role of CEO in 2014, she has made historic strides as the first female CEO within a leading semiconductor firm.

With a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from MIT, Lisa Su has been recognised as ‘Executive of the Year’ by EE Times and one of the ‘World’s Greatest Leaders’ by Fortune. In 2021, she was honoured with the IEEE Robert Noyce Medal, marking the first woman to receive this distinction.

Lisa Su shared her gratitude upon receiving the award: "I’m honoured to receive this year’s Innovation Award and be recognised by imec for pushing the boundaries of computing. I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together at AMD and even more excited about the opportunities ahead to deliver innovations that can help solve the world’s most important challenges.”

The award presentation will occur amidst the ITF World conference, expected to host over 2,000 executives at the Royal Elizabeth Hall in Antwerp, Belgium.
