NanoKTN to Discuss Needs and Opportunities for Nanotechnology in Healthcare
The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network (NanoKTN), one of the UK’s primary knowledge-based networks for Micro and Nanotechnologies, is pleased to announce the first event from its NanoMed focus group. The event will examine areas where nanotechnology is already improving clinical practice and also where the technology will be impacting healthcare in the near and distant future.
The Dr Mike Fisher, Theme Manager - Healthcare & Life Sciences, NanoKTN explains: “This meeting will be the first event of the NanoMed focus group and will cover topics such as cardiovascular disease and cancer treatment, focussing on the opportunities that nanotechnology offers to improve patient care.”
The potential of nanotechnology in the medical sector cannot be underestimated. However considering the number and size of players in the market, it is still a fledgling industry. Market projections into 2021 show strong growth for nanotechnology-based applications in pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and medical devices.
Key speakers at the event include Prof. Alexander Seifalian, Professor of Nanotechnology & Tissue Repair in Surgery, University College London, Prof. Shervanthi Homer-Vanniasinkam, Leeds General Infirmary, who will be delivering a presentation on Nanotechnology in cardiovascular disease, and Dr Sarwat Rizvi from the Royal Free Hospital who will discuss nanotechnology in breast cancer treatment.
The NanoMed conference takes place on the 8th July 2010 at the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead, London. All stakeholders who are interested to learn more about how nanotechnology is being used to improve clinical practice and where the technology will be impacting healthcare in the near future are encouraged to register for the conference.
