The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network is pleased to announce the UK and International commercial success of one of its members, eminate. The UK-based company has recently engaged with a number of UK supermarkets and food manufacturers to trial a new product, set to reduce the salt content of food in the UK and globally.
eminate’s Soda-Lo, a new low sodium no potassium ingredient developed by the food innovation company, aims to reduce salt content in food products naturally, whilst retaining a clean label for the same enjoyable salt flavour. High salt intakes are a major contributor to high blood pressure, increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke. Products like Soda-Lo will have a significant impact on the Government’s public health targets, helping the food industry to reach the 2012 guidelines suggested by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), to reduce the average salt intake in the UK from 10g per day to the recommended 6g.

Roger Carline, CEO of eminate believes that the support and advice offered by the NanoKTN and the opportunities delivered at its events, have played a key role in providing a platform to assist in the marketing of the product, whilst raising the company’s profile in the UK.

“Being a member of the NanoKTN has provided significant commercial opportunities for us. Attending events has provided us with a platform for our products in the UK, giving us the opportunity to raise our profile, market our products to relevant audiences and identify potential collaboration deals,” explains Roger Carline.

eminate was set up and funded by an investment from the Technology Strategy Board and the University of Nottingham. Its award-winning product, Soda-Lo is 100% sodium chloride; no chemicals or alternative compounds are used in its production.

eminate has attended and spoken at a number of the NanoKTN’s events and it was speaking at the NanoEntrepreneur’s event at BioCity last year where they met a number of specialist venture capitalists that helped them to gain an understanding of the market potential for their product. Discussions at the event assisted with decisions on the best business strategies to move the company forward with its development and commercial success.
Carline continues, “The NanoKTN has been very useful for our business, opening up opportunities that wouldn’t have been there otherwise. We now have international interest with a presence in Australia and America and over 200 customers worldwide. Attending NanoKTN events have enabled us to learn more about the market, the key players within it and collaborate with partners to successfully bring the product to market.”

“This story is a huge success. eminate was funded through public money offered via the Technology Strategy Board and it’s great to see the results of public funding now delivering huge commercial success, as well as providing benefits to public health,” comments Alec Reader, Director, NanoKTN.
