The Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network one of the UK’s primary knowledge-based networks for Micro and Nanotechnologies, is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a seminar session at NANO Live 2011, in partnership with JEMI UK. The session will feature top speakers showcasing the latest advances in MEMS & NANO processes for Electronics, Industrial & Biomed Applications.
NANO Live UK 2011, hosted at the Birmingham NEC from 27 – 29 September will focus on the exciting and emerging area of nanotechnology, which promises ‘more for less’. It offers ways to create smaller, cheaper, lighter and faster devices that can do more, more intelligently and, use less raw materials and consume less energy. It is the next step from micro manufacturing and as it becomes commercially viable, NANO Live will showcase this cutting edge technology. The three-day event will offer a unique opportunity to showcase and share the ideas, knowledge and contacts that will drive the full commercial potential of this exciting and ground-breaking technology sector.

The NanoKTN and JEMI’s seminar session will run on day one of NANO Live UK - 27 September 2011. Delegates will see presentations from a number of leading organisations including TECAN, Stratophase, Ekspla Lasers, the NanoKTN, Diamond Hard Surfaces and Intelligent Micro Pattening, who will discuss topics including electoforming – a proven technique for mass producing micro parts, optical microchip sensors for bio-reactor monitoring and bio-detection, ultra short pulse laser micro machining applications and systems, 3D micro and nano structures in carbon coatings for MEMS and microfluidic devices and maskless lithography.

Dr Martin Kemp, Theme Manager at the NanoKTN will discuss the potential benefits of nanotechnology and how these are crucial to the uptake of new techniques and approaches by product supply chains. Significant developments have occurred in the past few years which have brought nanomaterials out of the laboratory into major engineering applications. Martin Kemp will look at the potential and current commercial end uses.

Dr Alec Reader, Director of the NanoKTN comments, “Both the NanoKTN and JEMI recognise the importance of networking and bringing together all elements of the supply chain and we hope to create an arena where people can be brought together to foster new ideas. Events like NANO Live are of vital importance as it enables all members of the supply chain to meet and discuss ideas and opportunities. Events like this are crucial if we are going to continue to see the UK nanotechnology market develop.”
All sectors of the supply chain are encouraged to register for this free seminar and exhibition with over 100 suppliers on show. Established by the Technology Strategy Board, the NanoKTN is managed by Centre for Process Innovation Ltd, a leading technology development and consulting company.
