COM Express and Qseven Module Families support UEFI
The new high-end MSC CXB-6S COM Express™ module family and the powerful MSC Q7-TCTC-FD Qseven® modules from MSC Vertriebs GmbH offer the American Megatrends Inc. Aptio UEFI boot solution. UEFI based on Intel®'s Extensible Firmware Interface is supported by a broad company group and displaces the popular BIOS. New Linux and Windows® 7 (64-Bit) versions already support the UEFI boot process.
As dWith UEFI, COM manufacturer can now program in C/C++ instead of Assembler, necessary when using BIOS. Furthermore they can use EFI drivers which are already available for processors and I/O controllers. There is no need to program each single register. This results in the quick adaption of new hardware generations, shorter time to market of future module families and to increase the system security.
The UEFI standard is supported and driven by an independant consortium. To guarantee the compatibility, the above mentioned COM Express™ and Qseven® modules from MSC offer the BIOS interface via an integrated Compatibility Support Module.
The MSC CXB-6SCOM Express™ module family in the basic form factor of 125 mm x 95 mm is based on the second generation Intel® Core™ processors with two or four cores. Thanks to its high computing, graphics and video performance, the modules are best suited for demanding applications in the fields of image processing, medical engineering, casino gaming and for high-resolution digital signage.
The 70 x 70mm Qseven™ platform MSC Q7-TCTC-FD integrates an Intel® Atom™ E6x0 processor. The compact modules offer high graphics performance and a CAN bus according to the recently released
Qseven™ specification version 1.20. Beside commercial types, these innovative modules are available for the extended temperature range of -40 to +85°C.
