UWB Internal Planar Antennas Offer High Gain and Low Profile
Focus EDL has announced an ultra-wide band (UWB) family of high-gain, low-profile, internal planar antennas for high-speed, short-range data communication equipment. Produced by Pulse, these UWB antennas are available in sizes that are optimized for applications currently using the UWB spectrum and create opportunities for new applications in the UWB spectrum.
CurrThe Pulse UWB family includes the W3540, W3541, and W3542 planar antennas. The antennas are compact, lightweight, and at a height of just 0.8mm, they are among the thinnest antennas on the market. All versions have a minimum of minus 10dB return loss.
Dimensions of the W3540 are 10.2mm wide x 13.35mm long x 0.8mm high, its weight is 0.27g, and its ground clearance under the antenna is 20.0mm x 13.5mm. They are best for applications of 2.7 to 8.2 GHz, 3.1 to 4.95 GHz UWB low band, and 6.9 to 8.5 GHz UWB high band. For applications of 4.5 to 14.0 GHz, the W3541 is 6.5 x 8.0 x 0.8mm, with a weight of 0.082g, and a ground clearance under the antenna of 10.0mm x 8.5mm. The W3542 is 5.0 x 6.0 x 0.8mm, has a weight of 0.046g, a ground clearance under the antenna of 8.1mm x 6.5mm, and is best for applications in the 6.3 to 12.0 GHz range.
These UWB antennas provide omni-directional radiation to assure full 360-degree coverage, have a specially shaped patch-type radiator to enable expanded signal coverage, and deliver constant gain across the operation band for secure signal uniformity. The antennas have an impedance of 50 Ω and operate at temperatures of minus 40 to plus 85º C. They are fully surface mount device (SMD) compatible and RoHS compliant.
