Panasonic enters Wi-Fi module market with full range of products that simplify design and cut cost
Panasonic Automotive & Industrial Systems is entering the WiFi market with new modules designed to allow developers to get to market ahead of their competition. At Electronica 2014, Panasonic is presenting three different Wi-Fi module series: shortly after, the company plans to introduce additional combo Wi-Fi modules with different wireless technologies and multi-frequency options.
PAN90x0 Series modules enable designers to implement Wi-Fi functionality into various electronic devices. The radio modules combine an excellent 802.11 b/g/n wireless radio (2.4GHz), baseband processor, medium access controller, encryption unit, boot ROM with patching capability, internal SRAM, in-system programmable flash memory and other powerful supporting features and peripherals. The low-power operation supports deep sleep and standby modes by using an on-board power management unit.
PAN90x5 Series modules enable both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth functionality to be incorporated into new designs. Devices combine an excellent 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth Smart Ready wireless radio (2.4GHz), baseband processor and other supporting features and peripherals. MIMO 2x2 technology allows simultaneous data transmission over multiple streams using the same frequency. This results in greater range and higher throughput.
These two low-power system-on-chip (SoC) solutions enable wireless network applications to be built cost effectively.
PAN93x0 Series devices are stand-alone 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi modules (2.4GHz). All protocols and applications are included and handled by the MCU on the module. In Transparent Mode all data is sent unmodified to smart devices, web servers or PC applications via the UART interface of PAN93x0 Series modules.
This significantly reduces time to market and reduces development risks as internet functionality can be added very easily to existing end products using a simple cost-effective host controller. Updates over the air are possible with the integrated boot loader. All state-of-the-art network protocols and Wi-Fi standards are supported. PAN93x0 Series will be available beginning of 2015.
Panasonic offers full development software and tools, together with application notes and evaluation boards, to significantly simplify product development and speed time to market.
As well as Wi-Fi modules, Panasonic also manufactures a range of devices for Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) - Bluetooth, ISM and Mesh Networking. Panasonic’s modules are engineered in Germany and produced in Europe under TS16949. All modules are qualified according to CE, FCC, IC, and Bluetooth® QDID if applicable. Different software/profile options are available.
