32GB FlashAir cards simplify wireless photo sharing

Toshiba Electronics Europe introduce a new 32GB SD card, expanding its existing range of next-generation FlashAir wireless LAN SD cards. The new card features a new “internet pass-through” mode to further simplifies photo sharing. This feature enables the device to access the internet via a wireless access point, once a mobile device is connected to the FlashAir card.

Digital cameras are immensely popular, however one feature that users want is the ability to quickly and easily share photographs with friends and transfer them to online storage services, social media and other devices. Toshiba is the first to meet this need. FlashAirSD cards embed wireless LAN functionality into an SDHC card and support peer-to-peer transfers.

Connecting to FlashAir is now easier than ever, users can wirelessly access photographs and movies stored on the memory cards from PCs and mobile devices running both iOS and Android. The apps are available to download from the iTunes app store and GooglePlay. The card owner also has the functionality to restrict and allow which photos to share.

This process was more complex with previous versions of the FlashAir firmware. When a smartphone or tablet was connected to a FlashAir SDHC card, it was disconnected from the internet as those devices can only connect to one WiFi network at a time and the FlashAir card did not provide internet access. This meant that in order to upload a photgaph to social media, users had to swap between the FlashAir card and WiFi connections. The inclusion of the internet pass through mode in the new firmware eliminates this problem.

This new functionality will also be made available for the recently introduced 8GB and 16GB Speed Class 10 FlashAir cards running earlier firmware versions, which can be updated by using the Firmware Update Tool. The update tool will be available to download from the 18^th November from the Toshiba website.
