Spirent Communications and dSPACE have formed a technology partnership aimed at enhancing the realism of real-time positioning scenarios in Autonomous Driving Hardware-in-the-Loop (AD-HIL) test systems. This collaboration is set to expedite development processes and market entry for developers.

Building on a longstanding cooperative relationship, dSPACE and Spirent's latest venture introduces a comprehensive solution by integrating Spirent's GSS7000 high-fidelity global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) simulator into the dSPACE AD-HIL. This integration allows autonomous driving system developers to test vehicle behaviour in location-dependent scenarios using actual satellite signals. The offering combines all necessary tooling from a single source, ensuring performance consistency and speeding up development.

As driving automation levels increase and the associated responsibilities for OEMs grow, the accuracy and response time of GNSS-enabled systems are becoming increasingly vital, particularly for SAE Levels of Driving Automation at Level 3 or higher. The GSS7000 simulator enhances dSPACE's robust AD-HIL, which already includes simulation interfaces for radar, camera, lidar, and ultrasonic sensors. It acts as an additional sensor for validating driver assistance algorithms and becomes a crucial component in the digital homologation process. This setup allows for the testing of jamming and spoofing scenarios as security-relevant functions in highly autonomous platforms. Spirent’s SimHIL software interface ensures effective and dependable communication between the systems of both partners.

Adam Price, Spirent’s Vice President of PNT Simulation, commented: “We are very excited to be partnering with dSPACE as a leader in the automotive test industry. Our complementary portfolios are focused on quality, accuracy, and reliability, and together they provide compelling solutions to ensure that the next generation of connected and autonomous vehicles will be tested to the level of efficiency and safety that the industry demands.”
