At embedded world 2022, on the Digi-Key booth, Paige West speaks with Jason Kridner, Co-Founder of the BeagleBoard.org project and Robert Nelson, Principal Applications Engineer at Digikey about some of the exciting projects coming out of BeagleBoard, current trends in the market and the importance and benefits of being open-source.

The BeagleBoard.org Foundation is a Michigan, US-based 50(C)(3) non-profit corporation to provide education in and collaboration around the design and use of open-source software and hardware in embedded computing. BeagleBoard.org provides a forum for the owners and developers of open-source software and hardware to exchange ideas, knowlegde and experience.

BeagleBone AI fills the gap between small SBCs and more powerful industrial computers.

Donkey car

The donkey car, a minimally viable autonomous racer, is being built up. It has two wide angle cameras, ultrasonic sensors, wireless network, BeagleBone AI-64, and a measurement unit. It is working with its community to quickly build software so that soon, people will actually be able to drive one of these around.

Digi-Key

Digi-Key plays a huge part in BeagleBoard starting. The very first BeagleBoard was brought to Digi-Key, who bought 10,000 BeagleBoards.

"It's always been exciting working with BeagleBoard. The first day I had no idea where this idea was going. I bought it and started playing around with it and it has grown ever since," said Nelson.
