At electronica 2022, on the Digi-Key booth, Paige West speaks with Jörg Scheer, Executive Vice President, Device & Field Connectivity, Weidmuller about automation and why Digi-Key and Weidmuller are the best partners for automation projects.

Weidmuller is a family owned German business supporting its customers and partners around the world with products, solutions and services in the industrial environment of power, signal and data. It develops innovative, sustainable and useful solutions for their individual needs, setting standards in industrial connectivity.

With 22 years’ experience within the company, Scheer is responsible for all connector business at Weidmuller, meaning IP 20 connectors for PCBs as well as IP 67 connectors for harsh environments. He is also responsible for customised developments and all things required for mobility infrastructure.

Pioneering for 80 years

“For almost a century we have set majot milestones and defined many, many industries that are not in the field of industrial connectivity. For our customers, that means we can support them in designing perfect products with higher quality, industry-leading reliability and outstanding performance,” explained Scheer.

On the other hand, this offers practical support and therefore streamlines processes, from design to production, therefore saving time, resources, and money.

Automation’s role in transformation

Automation is vital for handing the complexity within networks and grids. To send synchronise processes and balance energy supply with energy demand across sectors and managed systems in real time. That is the core of transformation.

Integration is about communication and danger. For instance, with its single player Ethernet portfolio, Weidmuller has developed a future proof robust communication standard for all applications across sectors.

“As a pioneer, we are again, paving the way of industrial IoT and automation. From a customer perspective, we are an enabler from data to value,” said Scheer.
