Digi-Key at electronica 2022 with Sensirion
At electronica 2022, on the Digi-Key booth, Paige West speaks with Marco Gysel, Clean Indoor Air Business Development Manager, Sensirion about indoor air quality and Sensirion’s air quality sensor products.
Sensirion, the Swiss based company, has a focus on sensor components with two product lines, one of which focuses on air quality, and the other on flow sensing – such as liquid flow and gas flow.
With COVID-19 there are two main changes to the way indoor air quality is perceived. One – governments have become active players in improving air quality. Two – there is much more public awareness of how important it is to health.
Sensirion’s latest gen of sensors include metal oxide, optical, electrochemical and particulate matter sensing technology. They have a focus on three areas which are indoor air quality monitors, air purifier or air cleaning devices, and HVAC – specifically, ventilation systems.
“There are two main reasons why our customers decide to integrate our sensor devices, or sensor components. And reason number one is proof of work … the second reason is to make air purifier smart. So rather than me having to turn on and off the air purifying device, it will do so by itself by measuring air pollutants.”
The SCD4x measures Co2 and has a simple assembly which is based on surface mount technology, and it has optical sensing technology called (photoacoustic) NDIR, non-dispersive infrared. This ensures the sensors are accurate and selective and allows the sensors to be small without compromising performance.
The SEN5x is a modular product which is offered in many variants that include more or less parameters. It has a patented technology that prevents dust from sitting inside the sensor, and it utilises advanced algorithms that make the temperature reading more accurate.
With a “customer first mindset”, Sensirion offer a range of tools for evaluation and prototyping to make their customers life as easy as possible.
