At electronica 2022, on the Digi-Key booth, Caroline Hayes speaks with Naveed Majiid, General Manager, High Performance Analog at NXP about the NAFE11388 analogue front end ICs used in smart factories.

There are mega trends which are driving change in our world today – how we do business, how we make our products. Of course, climate change is at the top. Smart factories can help alleviate the pressures on the world’s resources. They will be more efficient and a lot smarter in how they go about making their products.

“When we look at a smart factory, one of the key factors which will help here is artificial intelligence. It will have a bigger and bigger role to play in these factories,” said Majiid.

Alongside improved factories, there are also improved processors. More powerful processors sit on the Edge, as opposed to the Cloud. Implementing artificial intelligence and machine learning at the Edge is a strong combination.

“As we develop these analogue front ends, we also work with our partner business line, as processing within NXP, to develop a system solution. We have put together the solutions with the right drivers and the right software support,” notes Majiid. “A customer can pick these up and deploy them into their factories very quickly.

“We’re really developing a complete portfolio of these analogue front ends – very powerful, very differentiated. We also have very significant design wins already, which is a strong point of proof that what we have developed is indeed liked by our customers.”
