David Gilday has fun with ARM technology with the ARM Powered MultiCuber 3x3x7
The ARM Powered MultiCuber robot solves a 3x3x7 cube - another world's first? Here is another example of how David Gilday (@IAssemble) has fun with ARM technology! The 3x3x7 cube is like a regular 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube with additional layers but is somewhat more complex due to its asymmetric structure with rectangular pieces. We think it looks cool when scrambled.
MultThe app runs on the smartphone's ARMv7 Architecture 1GHz processor and uses the camera to capture images of each face of the 3x3x7 cube. The app performs some image processing to determine the location and orientation of the pieces and then samples the colors of the scrambled puzzle. After calculating an efficient solution, the app transmits the moves to the NXT intelligent brick via bluetooth to instruct it to manipulate the cube. Embedded software running on the ARM7 microprocessor in the MINDSTORMS NXT is responsible for the motor control required to solve the puzzle.
