Electronic Specifier takes a look at the top sensor products to have been released in August.

1) Availability of an evaluation kit for its PVC4000 series of digital MEMS Pirani vacuum transducer is announced by Posifa Technologies.

The company says that it promises to disrupt the portable vacuum gauge market by enabling low-cost, easily replaceable sensor probes that can be switched without requiring the vacuum gauge itself to be recalibrated, since all the calibration data is stored within the probe itself.

The evaluation kit allows OEMs to quickly test drive Posifa's MEMS vacuum sensing technology for digital vacuum gauge and related applications.

It consists of a PVC4000 transducer packaged in a brass housing with a 1/4 SAE male flare fitting, or a stainless steel housing with a KF16 fitting that allows it to be installed into any vacuum environment for quick evaluation.

The PVC4000 transducer in the kit is calibrated and provides a digital output in microns.

PC-based diagnostic software gives users access to different sensor readings and configuration data stored in the transducer.

"With the PVC4000EVK, vacuum gauge OEMs can find out in an hour's time what our digital Pirani vacuum sensor technology can do to help them offer customers more flexible and versatile end products that build brand loyalty," said Peng Tu, president and CEO at Posifa Technologies.

2) At the MD&M West 2021 medical technology trade fair in Anaheim, Sensirion is unveiling three new flow sensors for respiratory applications.

They are now available worldwide via distributors.

All three products are next-generation sensors that belong to the popular SFM3xxx platform and are suitable for inspiratory applications at ambient pressure.

The SFM3003 has an extended flow range between -150 and 300 slm, while the SFM3013 is resistant to overpressure (up to 1 bar) and calibrated for heliox.

Lastly, the SFM3119 adds a digital sensor to the SFM31xx series of compact sensors.

The SFM3003 is based on the technology used in the SFM3019 sensor, which was brought onto the market during the COVID-19 pandemic to provide a high volume of flow sensors for inspiratory flow measurements in medical ventilators. Compared to the SFM3019, the SFM3003 comes with a wider flow range and improved specifications.

The flow of air, oxygen and mixtures thereof at rates between -30 and 300 slm can be measured with excellent accuracy, reliability and long-term stability – no recalibration required.

3) The FN3270 filter series from Schaffner has been extended to provide more options for machine builders.

Building on the strengths of the very successful FN3270 filter range the new FN3271 filter is an extremely compact and lightweight filter design requiring minimum mounting space in installations and cabinets.

15 different filter models are available to meet the specific needs and deployment for most industrial applications.

These include industrial viable speed electrical power drive systems, motor drives and systems containing frequency inverters and servo drives.

With its enhanced performance the FN3271 offers an ideal solution for EMC challenges, where the impedance at the connection to the noise source is high (> 100 Ohm).

The internal configuration of the FN3271 is optimised for this application. For applications with low impedances at the noise source the existing FN3270 remains the option of choice.

These new EMC filters provide the attenuation performance required to fulfil EN 61800-3/A11 and the filter performance is guaranteed under full load operating conditions.

4) In stock now at distributor Mouser Electronics are TE Connectivity’s 830M1 triaxial condition monitoring accelerometers.

The low-cost, board mountable accelerometers are designed for embedded condition monitoring and preventive maintenance applications.

These are piezoelectric devices available in ranges from ±25g to ±2000g and feature a flat frequency response up to >15kHz in all three axes.

The accelerometers feature three independent stable piezoceramic crystals in shear mode with low-power electronics, sealed in a fully hermetic LCC package.

They are designed and qualified for machine health monitoring and have a superior resolution, dynamic range, and bandwidth compared to MEMS devices.

An RTD temperature sensor is included inside the LCC package should the intended application require both a vibration and temperature sensor signal.

5) Sensirion is expanding its product portfolio for the MD&M West 2021 medical technology trade fair. Three new flow sensors for respiratory applications are now available worldwide via distributors. All three products are next-gen sensors that belong to the popular SFM3xxx platform and are suitable for inspiratory applications at ambient pressure.

The SFM3003 has an extended flow range between -150 and 300slm, while the SFM3013 is resistant to overpressure (up to one bar) and calibrated for heliox.

The flow of air, oxygen and mixtures there of at rates between -30 and 300 slm can be measured with excellent accuracy, reliability and long-term stability – no recalibration required. Furthermore, the company claim the SFM3003 has a low pressure drop, fast response time and optimal signal-to-noise ratio.
