The advance of electronics miniaturisation is opening new frontiers in medtech, including in the field of adhesive skin patches. In the past, a skin patch might contain a single wired sensor. But today’s smart skin patches incorporate a broader range of functions. Hybrid printed electronics permit a variety of electronic devices and non-invasive sensors to be affixed to a thin and flexible substrate, enabling designers to integrate sensors, microcontrollers, wireless connectivity, and batteries into a capable, durable, and connected device.

Time of flight sensor detects objects in 3D

 

The ZMX 3D time of flight (ToF) sensor from Banner Engineering is now being shipped by authorised distributor Mouser Electronics.

This 3D ToF sensor is designed to measure and monitor peak fill height and volume within a large field of view.

It uses laser and digital imaging technology to detect objects in a wide, three-dimensional field of view.

New hydrogen sensors for BMS thermal runaway detection

Posifa Technologies has released a new sensor solution for detecting thermal runaway in battery management systems (BMS).

Built on the company's MEMS hydrogen sensor technology, the new PGS4100 hydrogen sensors accurately detect hydrogen concentration in the air by measuring the change in thermal conductivity of the gas mixture within BMS compartments. This technology enables faster reaction times for triggering battery failure alarms in electric vehicles (EVs), ensuring compliance with safety standards.

The PGS4100 series is designed with a relative humidity sensor and a barometric pressure sensor. This strategic incorporation enables the sensor to counterbalance thermal conductivity changes influenced by humidity in air and elevation changes, enhancing the accuracy of hydrogen concentration measurement. This level of precision enables the PGS4100 to meet industry standards for flammable gas detection.

dSPACE integrates RoboSense models and accelerates the development of Lidar

In a technology partnership, dSPACE has integrated sensor models from RoboSense, an international technology company for smart lidar systems, into AURELION, the dSPACE sensor simulation solution.

The objective of both companies is to accelerate the development, testing, and validation of lidar functions in ADAS and AD applications.

“Sensor models for the most frequently used RoboSense sensors are now already integrated in the dSPACE AURELION sensor simulation solution. The scenarios that can be simulated using this combination extend the testing options and thus reduce costs from the development phase to validation,” explains Caius Seiger, Product Manager Sensor Simulation at dSPACE.
