Authorised distributor Mouser Electronics is now shipping the MCP998x automotive temperature sensors from Microchip Technology.

These multi-channel sensors measure temperatures with 1 °C accuracy up to 85°C and 2.5°C up to 125°C.

They deliver precise heat control in automotive applications, including infotainment systems, engine controls, diagnostics, and side-view mirrors, and support accurate thermal monitoring across up to five channels.

Integrated resistance error correction and beta compensation provide reliable temperature measurements without the need for additional configuration.

With up to five channels of monitoring and several alert and shutdown options for security, this product family can support systems that supervise more than one thermal element.

The remote sensors also integrate resistance error correction and beta compensation, eliminating the need for additional configuration for improved accuracy.

Monitoring temperatures at multiple locations with a single, integrated temperature sensor reduces board complexity and size, and simplifies design for a lowered bill of material (BOM).

The Microchip Technology MCP998x sensors, one of the largest portfolios of automotive-grade multichannel temperature sensors in the industry, provide superior accuracy at the higher temperatures expected in demanding automotive applications.

In addition, the sensors' 1.7 V to 3.6 V supply voltage range ensures compatibility with a variety of systems. Resistor-driven setpoints protect critical shutdown temperatures from malicious software overrides.

The MCP998x sensors are supported by the EV23P16A evaluation board, which is also available from Mouser Electronics.

The evaluation board includes a pre-mounted target device and easy connection to a PC through a USB interface.

Temperature can be data-logged using the Microchip Thermal Management software graphical user interface (GUI). The EV23P16A also has on-board connectors to allow for diode-connected transistors used for off-board temperature measurements.

The evaluation board enables users to easily evaluate many custom programmable features such as temperature alert limit settings, temperature conversion rate, resistance error correction (REC) and power modes.
