The TMD2755 proximity sensor module from ams is now being shipped by distributor Mouser Electronics.

The ams TMD2755 module 3-in-1 sensor incorporates a low-power VCSEL emitter (with integrated driver), an IR photodetector, and ambient light sensor in a narrow footprint and low-profile package.

At 1.1 mm × 3.25 mm, the module is approximately 40 percent smaller than comparable 3-in-1 modules on the market, with a 64-percent smaller height of just 0.6 mm, enabling mobile handset OEMs to develop device displays with minimal bezel.

The module provides object detection by photodiode detection of reflected IR energy. Detect/release events are interrupt-driven, and occur when proximity result crosses upper and/or lower threshold settings.

The proximity engine features a wide range offset adjustment to compensate for unwanted IR energy reflection at the sensor.

Proximity results are further improved by automatic ambient light subtraction. The ALS and IR photodiodes have dedicated data converters producing 16-bit data.

This architecture allows applications to accurately measure ambient light for devices to calculate illuminance to control display backlight.
