Aqara launches new FP2 presence sensor features

The Aqara FP2 Presence Sensor has now introduced its sleep tracking function which offers useful insights to track your mind and body.

Sleep monitoring

The FP2 sensor is designed for single-person use, and it tracks data such as sleep duration, sleep stages, heart rate, and respiratory rate. The sensor’s sleep monitoring functionality helps users monitor and analyse sleep status, and the real-time heart rate and respiratory rate data can provide essential insights for elderly care. Moreover, the FP2 sensor can now be used to trigger automations based on the user’s sleep status, for example, to activate the customised go-to-bed or wake-up scene. As a non-wearable device, the FP2 sensor obviates the discomfort of wearing a sleep tracker all night.

Zone positioning

It offers significant advantages over traditional PIR infrared motion sensors by using a single radar sensor to monitor rooms of up to 430 sq. ft. Furthermore, it can be divided into up to 30 zones, such as a sofa, bed, or desktop and individual automation can be set up for each zone. It's effectively the same as having multiple motion sensors in a single room.

Multi-person detection

Up to 5 target people can be detected using the FP2. The result is that, while dividing the space, it can also respond automatically according to the position of different people without interfering with each other. The sensor could trigger one scene when someone sits on the sofa, a second when someone walks into the room and a third when someone leaves.

Ultra-high precision

Privacy and detection accuracy are critical, and it is capable of recognising non-inductive signal detection without collecting real images. The FP2 detects even the slightest movement, such as breathing, to ascertain human presence. This level of precision means that users can set up automations to turn on lights and keep them on when someone is in an area, even when there is very minimal motion that more conventional sensors would not be able to sense. Automation, in general, can be achieved locally and millimetre-wave radar technology is much more stable than infrared sensor detection, even when sitting or sleeping.

Control other devices via HomeKit, etc.

The FP2 is fully compatible with Apple HomeKit and Home Assistant, Alexa and Google Home and the sensor can be integrated without requiring a hub.

Fall detection and alerts

If someone in a room falls, the FP2 can detect this and notify concerned family or friends in the most private and convenient way possible, without the need for an individual to wear any devices or install a camera for constant monitoring. Ideal for keeping a watchful eye on elderly relatives or the infirm. The range is a circle with a radius of 2 meters, and the accuracy of fall detection is >98% and the sensor must be ceiling mounted.  

Built-in light sensor

The fully functional light detection sensor in the Aqara ecosystem ensures lighting automation becomes much more flexible and enjoyable. It can trigger the lights in a room when someone walks in and only turn them off when leaving which is ideal for common areas such as bathrooms, utility rooms or storage cupboards. The built-in light sensor also allows for advanced darkness-based home automation.

Local automation & flexible installation ways

After the setup is complete, the product runs locally and the FP2’s automation will still run as originally set if there is occasional Wi-Fi network instability. It has several installation methods to adapt in various installation scenarios such as on a wall, ceiling mounted or on a high shelf.

IPX5 and hidden USB-C port

Owing to its IPX5 rating, the sensor can also be installed in wet environments such as bathrooms where accidents are more likely. The sensor has an open USB-C port, enabling users to swap the included cable to any USB-C compatible one, increasing the placement flexibility.
