AMFitzgerald and MEMS Infinity join for piezoelectric MEMS acceleration
A.M. Fitzgerald (AMFitzgerald) and Sumitomo Precision Products (SPP)’s MEMS Infinity announced a strategic and technical partnership.
This collaboration aims to fast-track the market introduction of thin-film PZT (lead zirconate titanate) MEMS chip technologies. These chips are crucial for MEMS sensors or actuators in rapidly growing sectors, including True Wireless Stereo, automotive LiDAR, medical ultrasound imaging, AR/VR, haptics, and other applications demanding high precision in ultra-compact formats.
Dr. Alissa M. Fitzgerald, Founder and CEO of AMFitzgerald, commented: "Thin-film PZT is a material increasingly in demand for diverse, high-performance MEMS devices. However, the industry faces challenges in accessing commercial-quality PZT during early development phases, when wafer volumes are low. This scenario often leads to delays as developers resort to lower-quality research-grade materials for prototyping. Our partnership with MEMS Infinity is set to change this, offering our clients an integrated design-to-manufacture pathway with superior-quality PZT from the outset."
The AMFitzgerald-MEMS Infinity alliance addresses a vital gap in the MEMS industry ecosystem:
- Combines AMFitzgerald's MEMS development expertise with MEMS Infinity's aerospace-grade prototyping and manufacturing capabilities in PZT MEMS.
- Ensures a seamless design-to-production journey for customers.
- Enables global access to MEMS Infinity’s advanced thin-film PZT.
- Utilises proprietary thin-film PZT data to enhance the precision of MEMS design and modelling, reducing the need for repetitive design-build-test cycles and speeding up product development.
- Provides clients with foundry-specific MEMS design, which lowers access barriers, minimises risk, reduces development costs, and accelerates commercialisation.
Mr. Masahiko Tanaka, Managing Executive Officer at Sumitomo Precision Products, stated: "For many years, SPP has applied its proven production techniques to create high-quality PZT for MEMS inertial sensors in demanding applications. To meet growing global demands, our expansion through MEMS Infinity extends our manufacturing capabilities in PZT MEMS. In collaboration with AMFitzgerald, our preferred partner for PZT MEMS design and product development, we are poised to offer unparalleled solutions to meet customer needs in expanding markets."
