Infrared LED suitable for iris recognition
Global LED and optoelectronics company, EVERLIGHT ELECTRONICS, has launched the NIR-C19M series with a wavelength of 810nm which exert what the company claims to be the clearest contrast effect to read the pattern of the iris. The recognition process is precise, quick and features heat dissipation. This makes it suitable for iris recognition applications in security surveillance systems (access control) and portable handsets.
Silicone lenses reduce size of vehicle lighting systems
Thanks to its smaller dimensions, Matrix light not only contributes to greater road safety but also gives headlight designers greater freedom. To meet the demands of the automotive industry for more compact smart headlights, Osram has taken this technology a stage further with the development of innovative SMARTRIX modules. SMARTRIX is an amalgam of 'smart' and 'matrix'.
Connecting to CIP safety with new safety module
The IXXAT Safe T100 safety module from HMS now supports the CIP Safety protocol according to CIP Volume 5 V2.14. It was previously available for PROFIsafe, the new IXXAT Safe T100/CS, enables easy, module-based implementation of secure IOs for CIP Safety.
LEDs shed more light in smaller packages
Three series of second-generation LEDs from Cree that offer higher performance with greater efficiency and longer service life are in stock at RS Components. The LEDs target design engineers and are suitable for a diverse range of lighting applications including spot, street, parking area, and both low- and high-bay lighting.
Inverters target AC motor-control applications
The RS Pro series of products from RS Components has been extended with a large range of simple-to-install and easy-to-use AC inverters. Complementing the wide range of AC inverters available from RS, the RSAC, RSMK, RSMA and RSDA series of devices are ideal for AC motor-control applications required by maintenance engineers and machine builders in processing and infrastructure industries.
BLE processor accelerates time-to-market for connected smart objects
To help product innovators streamline prototyping and development of connected smart objects, STMicroelectronics has created theSPBTLE-1Sready-to-use BluetoothLow Energy (BLE) module that integrates all the components needed to complete the radio subsystem. The new BLE module integrates ST’s proven BlueNRG-1 application-processor System-on-Chip (SoC) and balun, high frequency oscillators, and a chip antenna.
Stretchable biofuel cells extract energy from sweat
A team of engineers has developed stretchable fuel cells that extract energy from sweat and are capable of powering electronics, such as LEDs and Bluetooth radios. The biofuel cells generate 10 times more power per surface area than any existing wearable biofuel cells. The devices could be used to power a range of wearable devices. The epidermal biofuel cells are a major breakthrough in the field, which has been struggling with making the devices ...
Lumens-per-watt raised in second generation LEDs
The XLamp XHP70.2 LEDs from Cree are in stock at Mouser Electronics. These second-generation Extreme High Power (XHP) LEDs deliver up to 9 per cent more lumens and 18 per cent higher lumens-per-watt (LPW) than the first-generation XHP70 LEDs. The LEDs feature the same 7.0mm × 7.0mm footprint as the previous generation and provide an easy drop-in upgrade for customers with existing XHP70 designs.
Let's go back to basics with choosing the perfect regulator
Two main functions are provided in voltage regulators: changing the input voltage to a different level at the output and regulation (maintaining a constant output voltagedespite changing load conditions). DC/DC Regulators are a key component in any power system, and so choosing the correct regulator is critical if an optimum solution is to be developed.
Do you know about the 2018 halogen ban?
Did you know that from September 2018 low efficiency halogen bulbs are expected to be banned? No, not many people do, as a recent study has shown that only 1 in 20 people are aware that the ban is coming.Leading electrical supplier ElectricalDirect.co.uk is urging electrical contractors to be aware of the facts so that they can inform their customers as the ban approaches, to ensure they are prepared and ready for the switchover.
