The microchip (integrated circuit / IC) yesterday celebrated its 50th birthday. Fairchild Semiconductor’s Robert Noyce received the first patent for a commercially available silicon IC on the 25th of April 1961.

Professor Ian Phillips has been recognised by the National Microelectronics Institute (NMI) for his major contribution to the UK semiconductor industry. The Contribution to Industry Award, sponsored by BERR, is one of eight annual Ivation Awards made by the NMI.

ACAL Technology sign Honeywell Precision Sensors
ACAL Technology has announced the signing of a pan-European agreement to distribute Precision Magnetic and Pressure Sensors products from Honeywell. The agreement introduces magnetic and pressure sensors to ACAL’s linecard and follows increased demand from customers for sensors for use in applications such as GPS-enabled or other navigation products, as well as in air data systems, unmanned vehicles, test and measurement, and process control.
