Optical modulators for distributed fibre sensors
It has been announced that LASER COMPONENTS offers optical modulators (MXER-LN) in the range of 1,530 to 1,625nm dedicated to fibre sensing applications. Such applications require a very high extinction ratio as it is a key parameter. LASER COMPONENTS’ partner iXblue has developed these optical modulators based on Mach-Zehnder with an extinction ratio of > 40dB and beyond.
Fibre optic connector microscope with smartphone operation
The lightweight, ergonomically-designed FOCIS WiFi2 fibre optic connector microscope from AFL does not require any cables or displays. All you need to operate the ‘optical screwdriver’, sold by LASER COMPONENTS, is a standard iOS or Android mobile device. The corresponding app is available for free download.
Dedicated manufacturing area to launch at DSEI 2019
DSEI 2019 will for the first time host a Manufacturing Hub to highlight the vital contribution that tier 2, tier 3 and tier 4 manufacturers make to the UK defence industry. With an area dedicated to manufacturing excellence, DSEI 2019 will provide an opportunity for suppliers to penetrate the defence sector and strengthen their relationships within industry, including with the prime contractors that rely on their skills and technology to deliver c...
Astronomy filters for colour imaging
Precision photometric filter sets are used widely within the astronomy community. LASER COMPONENTS’ partner, Omega Optical, manufacture a range of filters for colour imaging from Bessel, SDSS and Johnson/Cousins, tailored to accommodate specific detector sensitivities.
The list of SparkFun's u-blox shields just got longer
Imagine you had a pet turtle. Let’s call him u‑lysis. u‑lysis the turtle lives in his pen in your backyard and spends most of his time hiding behind rocks, which is why you can never find him when you are looking for him. Surveillance cameras won’t do the trick, unless you set one up in each corner of his pen. What you need is a tracker. You could buy one online. But wouldn’t it be a lot more fun to make one yourself?
Laser module is dustproof and waterproof
It has been announced that the FLEXPOINT laser module ILM12IP from LASER COMPONENTS is specially designed for outdoor use. Its housing complies with protection class IP67. This means that even the finest dust particles cannot penetrate the housing. Even 30 minutes of submersion in water does not affect the module.
Photodigm shifts to extended mode-hop-free performance
DBR lasers from LASER COMPONENTS operate on the single longitudinal mode with the highest gain selected by the Bragg grating. A conventional DBR laser will normally exhibit a continuous, deterministic tuning range of up to 0.2nm before hopping to another mode. While this is sufficient for many applications, others require a wider continuous tuning range.

Infrared filters designed for vehicle exhaust emissions
LASER COMPONENTS specialises in the supply of infra-red filters and coatings. Theseoptical components can be used in the analysis of vehicle exhaust emissions using NonDispersive Infrared spectroscopy (NDIR). The coatings used in narrow band pass filters aremade up of several layers which create a complicated process of destructive and constructiveinterference, isolating a narrow region of the IR spectrum.
Laser white light module unveiled
Specialised provider of laser and optoelectronic components, LASER COMPONENTS USA, has demonstrated the ALBALUX FM, a laser white light module with bright and directional fibre optic output for precise and contrast-rich illumination in next-generation medical and machine vision applications.
