Manufacturers may be missing out on Austempering and Martempering
Commonly defined as the controlled heating and cooling of metals to change their microstructure and mechanical characteristics, such as hardness, ductility, tensile strength and impact resistance, heat treatment is a core phase in many manufacturing processes. It enables engineers to vary the properties of a given material to optimise its design performance and ensure consistent, reliable results. In this country, the top heat treatment technolog...

Non-contact angle sensors are now programmable with Vert-X Commander software from Variohm
Variohm EuroSensor has launched a new software application for communication and programming of Contelec Vert-X series non-contacting and contactless angle sensors. As the exclusive UK distributor for the Swiss manufactured range, Variohm offer OEMs the ability to reconfigure and customise the sensor curve and output characteristics over its 0º to 360º measurement range.
S-2 Glass Reinforcement Continues Growth As New Armor Applications Emerge
New applications for composite armor systems in vehicles are continuing to drive the growth of S-2 Glass reinforcements from AGY. S-2 Glass fibers are a significant component of the new Advanced Composites Demonstrator vehicle from NP Aerospace Ltd. and show how the design of a protection system can be incorporated into the structural design, reducing the overall weight of both the protection and structural elements.
Electro-magnets overcome the problems of residual magnetism
A new range of electro-magnets from Geeplus have been designed with ejector pins to enable them to overcome the problems of residual magnetism occurring when power to the device is switched off. Residual magnetism is common in electro-magnetic devices due to unavoidable very small air gaps which occur within the unit. Saturation tends to occur in the pole regions causing some residual field to remain when power is removed.
