Flyback switcher ICs cut power losses by 25%
A family of offline flyback switcher ICs from Power Integrations that offer efficiency of up to 94% are available from RS Components. They suit state-of-the-art compact power supply designs. The family can also cut power supply losses by a further 25% when compared to the previous generation, enabling the development of small and lightweight power supplies that do not require heatsinks, but can still handle up to 65W of power.
LED drivers feature low standby power and high efficiency
Power Integrations hasannounced theLYTSwitch-6family of safety-isolated LED-driver ICs for smart lighting applications. The new ICs deliver flicker-free output up to 65W, and feature up to 94% efficiency and as little as 15mW standby power, with configuration options for two-stage or single-stage PFC support.
IEC 60067-19: What is it and what does it mean?
Have you ever wondered what IEC 60067-19 means, or could mean for you? Well here, Dr. Martin Killeen of the AEMT (Association of Electrical and Mechanical Trades) outlines the requirements of the international Repair, Overhaul and Reclamation of Hazardous Area Equipment standard IEC 60079-19, and highlights how it impacts on both the service provider and the end user.
Rutronik, Isocom ink global pact
Rutronik and Isocom Components have signed a global distribution agreement. It covers the entire product portfolio of the UK company’s optocouplers and optoswitches. “Rutronik is the ideal partner for Isocom due to its global sales network and standardised infrastructure,” claims Justin Elvin, Managing Director at Isocom.
Gate drivers reduce system complexity and cost
A single-channel, isolated, IGBT and MOSFET gate driver in a wide-body eSOP package has been added toPower Integrations'SCALE-iDriver IC family, SID1102K.Featuring a peak drive current of up to 5A, the new part is able to drive 300A switches without boosters; external boosters can be used to cost-effectively scale gate current up to 60A peak.
Optocouplers for insulation resistance measurement
Andy Poh, Application Development Manager, Thomas Sng and Chun Keong Tee, Product Marketing Engineers, Broadcom, highlight the importance of effective insulation resistance measurement.
Symbols, footprints streamline optoelectronics design-in
Symbols, footprints, and 3D models for Vishay’s catalogue of optoelectronics products have been released by Digi-Key. The models, made available via online parts library SnapEDA, can be downloaded for free for most major PCB design tools. Designers spend days creating digital models for each component in their circuit board designs.
A 94% efficient offline flyback switcher IC
Power Integrations has announced the release of its InnoSwitch3 family of offline CV/CC flyback switcher ICs. The new devices achieve up to 94% efficiency across line and load conditions, slashing power supply losses by a further 25% and enabling the development of compact power supplies up to 65W without heatsinks.
Harsh environment DC/DC converters offer up to 92% efficiency
Additional models have been introduced to TDK's HQA series of harsh environment DC/DC converters. The series now includes both 85 and 120W ratings with output voltages of 5, 12, 15, 24, 28 and 48V. The input voltage is 9-40V for the 5-28V units and 18-40V for the 48V unit. All models can withstand a 50V surge for 1s. With efficiencies of up to 92%, the HQA series is suited for use in COTS, communications and industrial equipment.
Optocouplers address isolation & interface requirements
Toshiba has introduced a range of 10 AEC Q101-qualified photocouplers designed to address the demanding isolation, interface, switching and form factor requirements of automotive applications.Supplied in low-profile SO6 packages, the TLX9304, TLX9378 and TLX9376 are IC output photocouplers offering respective data rates of 1Mbps, 10Mbps and 20Mbps. Also in S06 packaging are the TLX9300 and TLX9185A transistor output and TLX9905 and TLX9906 photov...
