New this week - ADI's digital isolators, GPS/GNSS receivers from Linx & Cypress EZ-USB controllers
This video looks at new and interesting products. This week looks at: the ADuM144x series of quad channel digital isolators from Analog Devices; the Linx Technologies GPS and GNSS receiver modules; and Cypress' EZ-USB FX3 superspeed controller family.
GNSS software upgraded to cover SBAS simulation
Agilent Technologies has enhanced its N7609B Signal Studio for Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) software. The software now includes real-time simulation of SBAS (Satellite-Based Augmentation Systems), such as WAAS, EGNOS, MSAS, GAGAN and QZSS (Quasi-Zenith Satellite System for Japan). It also has the ability to add up to four CW interference signals inside the GPS, GLONASS or BeiDou bands for jamming tests.
Emergency call test system debuts at Mobile World Congress
Rohde & Schwarz will debut its compact eCall test solution for in-vehicle emergency call systems at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (Feb24-27). The setup consists of the R&S CMW500 wideband radio communication tester and the R&S SMBV100A vector signal generator with integrated global navigation satellite system (GNSS) simulator.
GNSS modules upgraded with 8th-Gen chip technology
The MAX, NEO and LEA GNSS modules from u-blox are now avilable in a multi-constellation positioning platform, designated the u‑blox M8. The module series provides a range of features including antenna management, integrated filters, data logging, crystal or TCXO, and rich set of interfaces.
GNSS positioning module achieves -160dBm sensitivity
A standalone GNSS positioning module introduced by Alpha Micro Components is claimed to be the smallest on the market. The EVA-7M from u-blox is designed for high volume consumer and low- end commercial cost- and space-sensitive applications. The highly integrated 7 x 7 x 1.1mm LGA module comprises all necessary components, including crystal and passives. Users need only add an antenna for instant global positioning capability.
GNSS Chip simultaneously supports GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, SBAS and BeiDou
Broadcom has annoucned the launch of a new Global Navigation Satellite System chip. Designated the BCM47531, it can simultaneously generate positioning data from five satellite constellations (GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, SBAS and BeiDou). By supporting the BeiDou constellation, the BCM47531 GNSS chip increases the number of satellites available to a smartphone, enhancing navigation accuracy, particularly in urban settings.
Precision timing GNSS module for cellular networks
The LEA-M8F is a new precision timing GNSS module which has been introduced by u-blox. Generating a precise 30.72 MHz reference clock, the compact and surface mount GNSS module is ideal for synchronizing industrial data and communication systems such as small, femto and macro-cell mobile networks.
HTC Desire 6160 uses Broadcom's smartphone platform
HTC has selected Broadcom's quad-core baseband and connectivity platform for their new Andriod smartphone, the HTC Desire 6160, which is optimised for China Unicom's growing HSPA+ network. Broadcom's smartphone platform includes an HSPA+ 1.2-GHz quad-core processor, an RF Transceiver, a power management IC, a connectivity combo chip and a multi-constellation GNSS location chip.
Channel simulator enables individual frequency set-up
A new wideband digital channel simulator for satellite or unmanned armed vehicle (UAV) data links from IZT provides a cost effective, time-saving solution with exceptional functionality. Accurate, complex and reproducible simulation of uplink, payload and downlink let system engineers create extremely realistic scenarios for testing their product in a laboratory environment.
The industry’s smallest standalone GNSS module
The smallest standalone GNSS positioning module on the market, the EVA-7M, has today been introduced by u-blox. Available in a 7mm x 7mm x 1.1mm LGA package, the new GNSS module supports US GPS, Russian GLONASS, Japanese QZSS, plus all SBAS augmentation systems and is designed for cost and space sensitive applications.
