MAX4805/05A: High-performance PZT and CMUT buffers increase penetration depth and sensitivity of medical ultrasound probes
Maxim introduced the MAX4805 and MAX4805A, octal high-voltage-protected buffers optimized for use with piezoelectric transducers (PZT) and capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducers (CMUT), respectively. The buffers' very low voltage noise (2.1nV/rt-Hz, typ) and current noise (2.0pA/rt-Hz, typ) improve system signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) to increase penetration depth and sensitivity. The MAX4805/MAX4805A are ideal for use in ultrasound imagi...
Fully Integrated Octal VGAs with On-Board CW Doppler Beamformers for High-Performance Ultrasound-Imaging Equipment
Maxim has introduced the MAX2036/MAX2038, fully integrated, SiGe variable-gain amplifiers (VGAs) with on-board continuous-wave Doppler (CWD) beamformers designed specifically for high-performance ultrasound-imaging applications. Together with the existing MAX2034 quad low-noise amplifier (LNA), the MAX2036/MAX2038 octal VGAs with CWD beamformers deliver the highest levels of integration, sensitivity, and dynamic range, along with the lowest outpu...
ZMDI 14-Bit Capacitive Sensor Conditioning IC Raises Bar on Accuracy, Linearity, and Temperature for Pressure Sensors
ZMD AG has expanded its family of capacitive sensor signal conditioning devices with the wide-dynamic-range ZSSC3123 integrated circuit. The chip delivers 14-bit resolution and 0.25 % accuracy over a wide range of sensor capacitances and temperatures. Target applications include low power battery driven sensor applications, sensors for humidity, weight scales, load and compression sensing, as well as tension control.
Capacitive sensor signal-conditioning IC from ZMD delivers 14-bit resolution at low power
ZMD has expanded its family of capacitive sensor signal conditioning devices with the wide-dynamic-range ZMD31210 cLite IC. New design technology delivers 14-bit resolution and 0.5% accuracy over a wide range of capacitance and temperature. Capacitive sensors offer several benefits, including very low power operation, and the ZMD31210 supports this with a low 60 uA current draw over a supply voltage range as low as 1.8V or as high as 5.5V.
Pin- and Software-Compatible, Multichannel DACs from Maxim
Maxim Integrated Products has introduced a family of quad (MAX5134/MAX5135) and dual (MAX5136/MAX5137), 16-bit and 12-bit digital-to-analog converters (DACs) which are pin and software compatible. These multichannel DACs are designed to address customers' environmental concerns about power consumption.
Freescale Introduces Automotive Airbag System Products for PSI5 Standard
Today at the PSI5 Forum in Nuremberg, Germany, Freescale Semiconductor introduced two advanced airbag system solutions for the emerging Peripheral Sensor Interface 5 (PSI5) protocol, including an inertial satellite sensor family and a mixed signal analog IC. The company is also complementing these products with the addition of an electronic control unit (ECU) inertial sensor family. Freescale’s airbag safety products are targeted at airbag sys...

Monitoring movement of cracks in structures with LVDTs
Measuring the changes in the width of cracks that occur in civil structures and buildings can be accurately determined by the use of Linear Variable Displacement Transducers (LVDTs). This important diagnostic technique can provide data to help understand the cause and then action appropriate remedial work where needed.
Analogue signal conditioning proves robust for multiple strain gauge channels
For large projects calling for hundreds of strain gauge transducer channels, analogue signal conditioning has been demonstrated to provide a cost effective and robust solution.
