Worthy winner scoops Digi-Key's electronica Chevvy draw
There was an air of tension at electronica last week as Digi-Key Electronics announced the winner of the it's 2018 Chevrolet Camaro V8 Convertible prize draw. And it turns out the name out of the hat is a deserved winner. Marcus E., a university student studying for his bachelor's thesis from Regensburg, Germany, attended electronica off his own bat to get a feeling for current market trends.
Using electronica to spread the word
At the recent electronica exhibition in Munich, Electronic Specifier editor Joe Bush spoke with Massimiliano Premoli, Business Development Engineer at Murata, where he explained the company’s message to its customers.
USB-C controller for fast charging of electronics in vehicles
The embedded solutions provider, Cypress Semiconductor has announced the availability of an automotive-qualified USB-C controller with USB Power Delivery (PD) that enables fast charging of portable electronics in vehicles. The Automotive EZ-PD CCG3PA controller delivers a plug-and-play user experience to automotive charging ports.
IoT and automotive from STMicroelectronics at electronica
At electronica STMicroelectronics presented many solutions in a variety of applications, such as IoT and automotive.STMicroelectronics showcased a range of connectivity solutions for smart cars, such as in-vehicle infotainment systems, telematics processors and sensors, radio tuners and amplifiers, positioning technologies, secure car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure connectivity solutions.
What are the key trends for emerging technologies?
Last week while most of us this side of the pond were at the electronica exhibition in Munich, approximately 3,500 attendees from 42 countries headed to the IDTechEx Show in Santa Clara, California, which featured 284 exhibiting organisations. Raghu Das, CEO, IDTechEx, explains.
Joint development project for 5G base stations
It has been announced by Sivers IMA Holding AB that the company has signed a joint development agreement with Ampleon to develop the next generation millimiterwave (mmWave) chips for 5G base stations. Both companies will jointly develop the product and Ampleon will be funding parts of the Sivers IMA development by approximately MSEK 3,5.
Flying AI vacuum cleaner can dust your house
A hovering vacuum cleaner powered by artificial intelligence was among the cutting-edge inventions at the University of Brighton’s Product Design showcase. VacHumme, created by student Tom Harding, is an almost fully automated ‘dusting drone’. It operates via an AI mapping function and is designed to fly around a single room, cleaning every surface it can reach.
Leading memory for AI, IoT edge and autonomous driving vehicles
Electronic Specifier had a chance to meet with memory solutions provider Micron at the recent electronica exhibition in Munich. The company, with headquarters in Boise, Idaho, specialises in DRAM, NAND Flash, NOR Flash, Hybrid memory solutions and Solid State Drives (SSDs), which have applications in a broad line of industries such as automotive, consumer, embedded, industrial, mobile, networking and financial.
Coating and curing like nothing before
People often don’t realise how important coatings are to a lot of products and industries.Electrolube recently attended electronica 2018, to show live demonstrations of what it describes to be revolutionary, and one of a kind, new 2K850 conformal coating material using a line-up of three machines covering: dispensing and cure, followed by an end-of-line test of the coating using new technology.
Harvested energy enables truly self-powered IoT applications
At electronica ON Semiconductor introduced its Bluetooth Low Energy Switch reference design that operates entirely from harvested energy. The platform demonstrates how the RSL10 System-in-Package (SIP) can enable Bluetooth 5 devices that are battery-less and entirely self-powered, requiring no additional energy source. Application examples include wall and lighting control, building automation, and asset tracking.
