The last piece of the puzzle
Thanks to a new process, a CMOS RF power amplifier has matched the performance of GaAs devices for the first time, resulting in new possibilities for reconfigurable RF front ends, reports Sally Ward-Foxton.
Unique gearbox for heavy vehicles launched by Volvo Trucks
Volvo Trucks is now launching I-Shift Dual Clutch - the first automated transmission for heavy vehicles with a dual clutch system. Thanks to power-shift gear changes torque is maintained without any interruption in power delivery and, as a consequence, the truck does not lose any speed during gear changes. For the driver, the result is more comfortable and efficient progress on the road.
Raspberry Pi moves into professional embedded market
Raspberry Pi has moved up a notch and its latest product – the Raspberry Pi Compute Module – is now available from RS Components (RS). Explains Eben Upton of the Raspberry Pi Foundation, “The idea for the Compute Module came about from our observations of how a substantial number of industrial and commercial equipment designers were incorporating a Raspberry Pi into their end system."

SF6 gas analyser features pump back facility
Featuring a gas return function, the portable SF6 gas analyser from Cambridge Sensotec meets the requirements of the electricity generation and distribution industries. The analyser will allow the user to return the sample to pressurised switchgear. SF6 gas samples can be extracted from the GIS equipment into the analyser, measured and pumped back.
More intelligence through cross-vendor standardisation
Building automation must meet increasingly stricter demands as more and more disciplines need to be integrated into intelligent control systems. All the necessary technologies already exist. The real challenge today is to combine the partial solutions of different manufactures and various communication standards. An open network based on standards paves the way for "artificial intelligence".
Embedded software test tool adds coverage measures
The new version 3.1 of TESSY, the tool for automated unit / module / integration testing of embedded software, features additional coverage measures and can also generate test cases from given values. With the additional coverage measures TESSY adheres better to the requirements of different standards with respect to functional safety.
