Software paves way to repeatable material characterisation
A complete solution for performing high resistivity measurements in compliance with accepted industry standards including ASTM D257 and IEC 60093 has been unveiled by Tektronix. Designed for use with the Keithley Model 6517B Electrometer and Model 8009 Resistivity Chamber, the new Model KICKSTARTFL-HRMA application automates volume and surface resistivity measurements for more accurate and repeatable results without the need for custom programmin...
Transformer refurbishment benefits on show at Euro TechCon
Companies looking to save money and time with their existing transformer assets should visit the Winder Power stand at Euro TechCon 2016 this week. Experts from Winder Power will be on-hand during the three-day conference to discuss the advantages of undertaking transformer refurbishments both on-site and in factory settings.
Cooling technology benefits plastics recycling
Hampshire cooling engineers went above and beyond their brief to help a corporate client save thousands of pounds a year at its recycling plant in the North East of England.Engineering firm Aqua Cooling, which is based in Fareham and has an office in York, has supplied and installed one of its hi-tech chiller systems for a new client at its Redcar waste management facility near Middlesborough.
Current-shunt monitor improves efficiency and accuracy
Texas Instruments (TI) has introduced a current-sense amplifier for in-line motor phase current measurement that improves overall motor efficiency, compared to existing current-sense amplifiers. The INA240 offers enhanced Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) rejection for systems running at up to 80V to support a variety of applications such as motor control, solenoid control and power delivery systems.

Magnetic ink can print self-healing batteries
A team of engineers at the University of California San Diego has developed a magnetic ink that can be used to make self-healing batteries, electrochemical sensors and wearable, textile-based electrical circuits. The key ingredient for the ink is microparticles oriented in a certain configuration by a magnetic field. Because of the way they're oriented, particles on both sides of a tear are magnetically attracted to one another, causing a device p...
