How smart are mobile machines?
Digitisation and automation are transforming the working world. How mobile robotics, smart data and machine learning are already being used in the off-highway sector will be demonstrated at the 3rd international VDI conference 'Connected Off-Highway Machines' in Duesseldorf on 10th-11thApril 2018.
The 'Slim' line: 1064nm PLANEX laser
RIO has announced its first PLANEX laser emittingthe classic YAG wavelength of 1064nm, featuring narrow line width (15kHz), lownoise and high coherence length. Its compact housing and standardised electricalconnections make it an easy drop-in replacement for existing designs. RIO lasersare available from LASER COMPONENTS in Germany and in the UK.RIO’s proprietary PLANEX technology is a combination of a gain chip and a planarlight wave circu...
General purpose digitisers can now perform up to 50% faster
Spectrum Instrumentation has announced the addition of five new models to its general purpose M2p.59xx series of PCIe 16-bit digitiser cards. The new versions extend the performance range by increasing the maximum sampling rate from 80 up to 125MS/s. The increased sampling rate, together with higher overall bandwidth, enables the new cards to capture a wider range of electronic signals.
Human-machine interaction passes SICK’s ‘Safety IQ’ Test
At the 2018 MACH show SICK will be demonstrating its UK SafetyIQ concept, the company’s universal approach to ensuring safe, compliant personnel protection without compromising on machine availability, efficiency and productivity.SICK’s machinery safety experts will be on hand on stand H18-421 to discuss SafetyIQ, a full suite of safety products, services and systems underpinned by networking and integration that enables customers to ...
Simplifying the measurement of ECUs and ADAS sensors
In the new version of its CANape measurement and calibration tool, Vector integrates many new functions. In this way, calibration engineers can simplify their work and interactions with their ECUs. The storage of configuration files in containers accelerates important project transfer operations. Improvements have also been made in the field of ADAS development, in particular for the visualisation of LIDAR sensor data.
Multi band GNSS receiver features autonomous driving precision
Assisting safer autonomous driving, STMicroelectronics has introduced what the company claims to be world’s first multi-frequency satellite-navigation receiver chipset suitable for safety-critical automotive applications and high accuracy positioning at the decimeter and centimeter-level for PPP and RTK applications.
Driving the commercialisation of C-V2X technology
Qualcomm Incorporated have announced that its subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, is working with an ecosystem of leading carmakers and automotive suppliers to accelerate the commercial introduction of Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology using the Qualcomm 9150 C-V2X chipset solution. C-V2X is a global solution for V2X communications designed to support improved automotive safety, automated driving, and traffic efficiency.
Robotic vehicles: industrial sensors are the early winners
"Sensors for robotic vehicles will become industries of their own,"announcedYole Développement, the market research and strategy consulting company in its new analysis named Sensors for Robotic Vehicles. Growth rates are expected to be impressive. In 2017 production of robotic vehicles was in the range of a few hundred worldwide. Yole is expecting production volumes to reach 3.1 million units annually, with cumulative production of 10.5 mil...
Striving for an autonomous driving development
At this year's CES show in Las Vegas,Infineon Technologies and Baidu jointly announced that Infineon is joining the Apollo Program of Baidu. Based on Baidu’s ability in AI and autonomous driving, as well as Infineon’s advantage in automotive electronics hardware platforms, both parties will cooperate in depth to promote rapid development of autonomous driving technology to improve people’s intelligent life.
The difficulties of testing driverless cars in Moscow
What is the worst confluence of driving conditions you can possibly imagine? It's probably nighttime in a densely populated city. There would be a vision-obscuring blizzard making the roads slick and unreliable. Traffic would be thick and moving irregularly. Worse, the drivers around you would have seemingly little regard for your safety, or even their own. Even the road signs would be difficult to see. Welcome to life for drivers in Moscow. Aut...
