First wireless Arduino programming app for Windows
The Windows Bean Loader has been launched by Punch Through Design, hailed as the first-ever wireless Arduino programming app for Windows users. This enables Windows-based developers and hobbyists to easily upload code to their LightBlue Bean MCU board and experience the power of BLE, without cables or a physical connection to the LightBlue Bean.
Development platforms target power-sensitive embedded applications
Analog Deviceshas introduced two low-cost Blackfin processor-based development platforms, targeting demanding ultra-low-power, real-time applications for image sensing and advanced audio. The Blackfin Low Power Imaging Platform (BLIP) leverages the ADSP-BF707 Blackfin processor as well as Analog Devices’ optimised software libraries for video occupancy sensing.
Board-specific enclosures for Arduino & Raspberry Pi
Specifically targeting the Arduino and Raspberry Pi bareboard computers, Hammond Electronics has announced the 1593HAMEGG enclosures. Designed in response to user feedback, the enclosures offer an alternative to traditional base and lid designs where the bareboard is mounted inside an enclosure. Instead, the board is screwed into moulded studs located on the top of an egg-shaped base.
LED lighting shield for Arduino provided flicker free dimming
The new RGB LED Lighting Shield with XMC1202 for Arduino from Infineon Technologies is now available from Farnell element14. It is one of the industry’s first easy-to-use, intelligent lighting solutions compatible with Arduino and the XMC1100 Boot Kit of Infineon. The solution features three independent dimming engines with nine independent Pulse Density Modulated (PDM) channels.
Cortex A-5 processor at heart of development kit
Featuring an ARM Cortex-A5 microprocessor, the Atmel XplainedSAMA5D4-XULTboard allows users to evaluate, prototype and create high performance, application-specific designs. The development kit, now on sale at element14, includes 4Gb DDR2 external memory, one Ethernet physical layer transceiver, two SD/MMC interfaces, two host USB ports and one device USB port, one 24-bit RGB LCD and HDMI interface and debug interfaces.
Smart as paint: Liquid wire adds gloss to RS portfolio
RS Components has signed up a new distribution partner in Bare Conductor, developers of the innovative Electric Paint and the Arduino-based Touch Board. Electric Paint is electrically conductive, non-toxic, solvent-free, and water-soluble. It can be used as a liquid wire, as a cold-soldering medium, or even as a conductive adhesive.
RS Components expands portfolio with innovative Electric Paint and Touch Board from new supplier partner Bare Conductive
RS Components has launched into its latest distribution partnership by adding Electric Paint and the Arduino-based Touch Board from London tech creators Bare Conductive. These innovative products provide cost-effective and easy-to-use choices for professional engineers and also for maker communities.
Connector chosen for use within IoT computing platform
Intel has chosen to use Hirose’s DF40 series board-to-board connector within its recently released Edison computing platform. The miniature platform, which is suitable for the development of IoT, wearable, mobile, industrial and automotive applications, utilises the DF40 70-pin header to allow developers to connect devices such as displays, keyboards and power supplies.
Raspberry Pi accessory board adds sensory & output modules
The GrovePi+ is an accessory board that allows users to interface a Raspberry Pi SBC with Seeed's Grove line of sensors, inputs, and output devices. The GrovePi+ drivers and SDK can be utilised to easily write software for the Raspberry Pi that interacts with Grove devices. The GrovePi+ Starter Kitt from Seeed Studio and Dexter Industries includes a GrovePi+ board and a selection of Grove modules.
Arduino shields enable RGB lighting & motor control
Compatible with the Arduino Uno R3, two shields have been announced by Infineon Technologies for RGB lighting and motor control applications. Both shields can be combined with the XMC1100 Boot Kit which is equipped with a 32-bit MCU from the XMC1000 family.
