Sensor transponder generates an IoT-ready solution
A flexible, high frequency 13.56MHz sensor transponder family, claimed to be the industry’s first, has been released by Texas Instruments. The RF430FRL15xH SoC family combines an ISO 15693-compliant NFC interface with a programmable MCU, non-volatile FRAM, an ADC and SPI or I2C interface.
Ultra-thin NFC tags set to revolutionise card gaming
Holst Centre, set up by imec, TNO and Cartamundi, have announced a collaboration to develop ultra-thin flexible NFC tags using metal-oxide (IGZO) Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) technology on plastic film. The flexible chips will be integrated into game cards as a part of Cartamundi’s larger strategy of developing game cards for the connected generation.

Wireless MCU supports ZigBee Remote Control 2.0
NXP's ultra-low-power wireless MCU family, JN516x, has been awarded the Golden Unit status for the recently announced ZigBee Remote Control 2.0 standard. The company also provides software for the ZigBee Remote Control 2.0 standard and an optimised remote control with one layer board reference design to support design-in customers.
Card selected for prepaid card loyalty programme
KDDI, a Japanese mobile operator, has selected NXP Semiconductor’s secure MIFARE DESFire EV1 for their loyalty programme in the ‘au WALLET’ prepaid card. The au WALLET service includes a loyalty programme where points based on the amount purchased via the card and monthly mobile bill can be earned. Since the launch in May 2014, five million ‘au’ network subscribers have applied for the au WALLET card.

The Boosted NFC Secure Element from Infineon Technologies is being supplied to Watchdata Technologies for it’s Sharkey smart wearable devices. These devices, which are available as smart watches or wristbands, enable a mobile lifestyle, operating as secure bank cards when shopping or contactless tickets when taking public transportation combined with personal sport management functions.
