New strategic supply agreement for Avalanche photodiodes (APD)
The optical technologies trade fair, SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco, sensor specialist First Sensor and Velodyne LiDAR announced an expansion of their cooperation for Avalanche photodiodes (APD), which has been in place since 2005.The strategic supply cooperation has a volume in the millions over the next three years. Velodyne LiDAR uses Avalanche photodiodes (APD) from First Sensor in its entire product range of LiDAR scanners.
Digital driver provides higher resolution
The reference-class digital controller/driver offering higher bandwidth and resolution has been improved by PI, along with three times the driver power of its predecessor.
UK healthcare innovations in 2016
In 2016, CPI’s activities within the UK healthcare sector grew exponentially. It had been partnering with clinicians to understand what they and their patients need and building networks between its partners and academics, biochemists, engineers, scientists and regulatory experts.
Multispectral image sensor combines colour and NIR imaging
At next week’s SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco, imec, the research and innovation hub in nano-electronics and digital technologies, will introduce a new image sensor with integrated colour (Red Green Blue, RGB) and narrow-band near-infrared (NIR) filters.
No backlash and high speed linear motors have integrated encoders
Two linear motors have been added to Moticont’s SDLM Series of high speed direct drive linear motors, also known as Electric Cylinders. These compact drives with a 25.4mm (1.0”) stroke are just 25.4mm (1.0”) in diameter and 95.3mm (3.75”) long. These direct drive linear motors feature resolutions of 5µm (0.000197”) and 1.25µm (0.000049”).
MBE system order increases manufacturing capacity
Equipment manufacturer for semiconductors materials, RIBER, has announced the order of a MBE system for high power bar-lasers production.
Low-cost OEM solution for fibre optic temperature measurements
SPIE Photonics West 2017 will see Micronor and Optocon AG debuting as they have collaborated to create the FOTEMP1-OEM-MNT; a low cost, small form factor, single channel signal conditioner that seamlessly integrates Fibre Optic Temperature Sensing into any industrial control system, medical instrumentation or other OEM design.
Sustainability on campus: taking solar to the next level
Benjamin Aufill is Sustainability Communications Manager at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a bustling campus that serves 22,000 undergraduates each year and provides housing for 12,500 of them. The university has recently committed to installing 5.5 MC (DC) of solar on various locations around its sprawling 1,450-acre campus."I'm pretty sure there will be solar on top of everything eventually," said Aufill in an interview in late summer...
Hologram video player shows your beating heart
UK scientists are developing an interactive holographic video created from an MRI or CT scan that can display live footage of internal organs in front of a user where features can be rotated, enlarged, and isolated, delivering a breakthrough in medical imaging and education.Popping in to your local hospital may be much more revealing in as little as three years thanks to engineers at Holoxica Limited, who have invented a moving 3D video hologram.
Experience a range of photonics techniques at LASER World
Lenses with a surface accuracy in the nanometer range are behind ever more accurate laser and optical systems. Manufacturers depend on precise optical and mechanical ablation processes, coating processes and accurate measuring technology to venture into these nano-worlds.
