Beer and chocolates on offer at Embedded World
SILICA will be focussing on connectivity and automation and will be hosting seven demonstrations at Embedded World 2015 in Nuremberg (Feb 24-26) dismissing the norm of glass case displays and wall-mounted videos. So visitors will be able to watch the Maxim beer mug factory (though no mention of whether beer is included) and a chance to order different chocolates via NFC tags.

An automotive-grade NFC chip, which features tap-to-connect technology, has been introduced by Broadcom. The BCM89095 simplifies the set-up process for mobile device connectivity within the vehicle and enables convenience applications such as keyless entry and vehicle settings.

Measuring just 0.6x0.35x0.35mm, AVX has claimed that the sub-millimetre 0201 TACmicrochip series is the world’s smallest and lowest profile tantalum capacitor. The 0201 E case TACmicrochip capacitors provide standard tantalum technology benefits, including inherent immunity to piezoelectric noise, as well as higher stability, higher reliability and higher temperature performance than comparable MLCCs.

Toshiba to showcase Bluetooth-NFC-Tag combo IC at event
At Embedded World 2015, which takes place from 24th to 26th February, Toshiba Electronics Europe will be showcasing technologies from across its wide range of standard and custom semiconductor solutions. Various application processors from the company’s ApPLite range will be demonstrated at the show. These application processors support secure communication and provide timely processing of text, sound, image and sensor data.

Winners of NFC Windows Application Contest announced
The winning applications for the NFC Windows Application Contest, launched by NXP Semiconductors, Microsoft, Identiv and Lenovo earlier this year, have been announced. The contest revealed a number of potential practical use cases for NFC in computing and on tablets, ranging from healthcare to gaming applications.
