IoT sensor kit maintains optimum conditions for tulip bulbs
As part of London Tech Week, Electronic Specifier attended TechXLR8 at London’s ExCeL. We got the chance to meet with 30MHz, a Dutch company that lowers the barrier to entry to industrial sensor technology. The interoperable plug-and-play 30MHz Sensor Toolkit is designed for quick implementation of sensors in the hundreds of thousands, and its dashboard makes data monitoring simple and user-friendly from any device.
Weight transmitters used for agricultural produce handling machinery
The automated BOXFILR system specifically for handling vegetable produce such as potatoes, carrots and onions is manufactured by Netherlands based agricultural machinery specialist Van Hees. During harvest time for farm use, and as an all-year-round support for distribution storage and transportation, the system includes conveyor delivery, filling, emptying and crate stacking operations with very high efficiency thanks to several modules that per...
From highways in the sky, to ‘eye‑ways' in our homes
Surely it’s a dream to have a car that will move you and your family from Point A to Point B without ever sitting in traffic?Let’s think about how convenient it would be to book a taxi that rises above the city streets and flies you to your destination through the clouds?
Decomposing leaves are a source of greenhouse gases
Michigan State University scientists have pinpointed a new source of nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas that’s more potent than carbon dioxide. The culprit?Tiny bits of decomposing leaves in soil. This discovery, featured in the current issue ofNature Geoscience, could help refine nitrous oxide emission predictions as well as guide future agriculture and soil management practices.
"eRamp" strengthens Germany and Europe in power electronics
One of the most important European research projects for energy efficiency, “eRamp”, is coming to a close. Over the past three years, 26 partners from business and science have explored innovative electronics components for using energy even more efficiently. Their focus was on the rapid introduction of new production technologies, such as packaging technologies for energy-saving chips. The eRamp project covered the entire power elect...
Mushroom speakers amplify environmental message
Speakers made from the roots of mushrooms have been designed by a Nottingham Trent University student to create a new sound.Bertie Ford, who created FungiSound as part of his BSc Product Design degree, says his project also sends out an environmental message about the imaginative use of natural materials.Using mycelium – the material produced underground by mushrooms – the 22-year-old has made casing which also acts as sound dampening...
Biomass power station aims for zero carbon footprint
Italy's largestagricultural biomass power plant has opened, integrating four 1MW generators using Movicon SCADA technology for control and visualisation for efficiency monitoring. The SCADA system is providing the information required to provide power for 10,000 homes while offsetting the carbon generated by the plant with the carbon consumed by the in-feed crops as they grow, resulting in a target zero carbon footprint.
RoboteQ’s 500A brushless motor controllers target EVs
Roboteq has introduced the RGBL1860 and RGBL1896 controllers for high-power brushless DC motors. These featured-packed controllers can drive up to 500A at 60V, or 300A at 96V respectively. This very high power capacity makes the controllers suitable for Electric Vehicles, Material Handling Robots, Electric Boats or Agricultural Robots.
High precision RTK GNSS module featured in drone navigation kit
HEX Taiwan’s new drone navigation kit: Here+, now features u blox's NEO M8P high precision RTK GNSS module. HEX is an open source hardware manufacturer which produces open source drone autopilots. The Here+ RTK GNSS kit is supported by Ardupilot out of the box. It consists of a round rover designed to be mounted on the drone and is connected to the flight controller using the supplied 8 pin CLIK-Mate connector (for the autopilot Pixhawk2) or...
Low-profile antenna targets applications using LPWAN protocols
Manufacturer of antennas and RF antenna modules for M2M and the IoT, Antenova, has announced a new antenna, Grandis, part number SR42I010. It is an SMD antenna that is physically smaller yet provides enhanced performance in the 863-870MHz and 902-928MHz bands. It directly targets the growing number of M2M and IoT applications using the LPWAN protocols. With Grandis, Antenova has reduced the footprint of the LPWAN antenna to 12.0x11.0x1.6mm, while...
