Printed electronics will experience a CAGR of 8.6%
By Raghu Das The printed electronics sector has been fascinating to follow and report on. Several billion dollar industries such as OLED displays already exist but the OLEDs today are not printed. OLED displays alone exceeded $16bn in sales last year, driven by the need to differentiate in the tight margin LCD business. By revenue, the second largest sector is the printing of sensors. In 2014, the glucose test strip market accounted $6.4bn, whil...
Qualcomm given green light as Mercedes tech partner
Qualcomm has announced that it has entered a multi-year agreement with the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team to become an official technology partner. The two companies will collaborate to develop connected car technologies to enhance the team’s on-track performance, utilising Qualcomm’s expertise in mobile as the foundation for development.
LTE to be extended to unlicensed spectrum
Qualcomm, T-Mobile and Alcatel-Lucent are enabling the extension of LTE to unlicensed spectrum with upcoming Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) deployment plans. Following its trials of this LTE Advanced capability in 5GHz, T-Mobile will deploy LAA in 2016, whilst Alcatel-Lucent will begin trials this year with LTE-U enabled small cells using Qualcomm’s FSM99xx family of small cell SoCs.
Modems enable ubiqitous in-car LTE deployment
Qualcommhas added the SnapdragonX12(9x40) and X5 (9x28) LTE modems to its Snapdragon Automotive Solutions range, supporting automotive connectivity. The Snapdragon X12 LTE modem (9x40) is designed for advanced telematics and connected infotainment features, supporting greater coverage at download speeds up to Category 10 (up to 450Mb/s downlink and 100Mb/s uplink).
MWC demonstrations highlight LTE & WiFi connectivity
