Laser diode QLF063D-60C0-GM for industrial sensors
The laser diode QLF063D-60C0-GM by the Japanese manufacturer QD Laser has been specially developed for use in sensors and for industrial laser-projection systems. In CW operation, the maximum output power amounts to 130 mW, in pulse operation up to 300 mW at 500ns pulse width and 50% duty cycle.
Introducing new 3D time-of-flight image sensors
Distance image sensors measure the distance to an objectper pixel, using an indirect TOF (time-of-flight) method. It is a good sensor for people and object detection, and shape recognition for applications where touchless or labour-saving technology is required.
Hamamatsu Photonics building completion at Toyooka site
Hamamatsu Photonics has been constructing a new Building No. 5 at the Toyooka Factory site (Shimokanzo, Iwata City, Japan), and has now announced the completion of the new building. This new building will start operations in September this year to boost the R&D activities and customer service in the electron tube market. The completion ceremony for this new building took place Wednesday, August 19th.
Hamamatsu Photonics completes new factory
Hamamatsu Photonics has been constructing a new factory building at the Shingai Factory (Shingai-cho, Minami-ku, Hamamatsu City, Japan) to cope with increasing sales demand for opto-semiconductors, X-ray image sensors and X-ray flat panel sensors. This new factory will start operations in October this year. The completion ceremony for the new factory building took place Friday, August 7th.
A thank you to the engineering industry!
The response from the engineering industry to help in the fight against COVID-19 has been overwhelming. Companies from all sectors have stepped up to produce everything from ventilators and face masks to hand gels and more. Here, Jeremy Whittingham, Head of Community and Content atAdvanced Engineering UK, highlights some of the generosity shown across the industry.

Instant bladder cancer scan could save thousands of lives
Thousands of lives lost to bladder cancers each year could be saved thanks to a new bladder cancer scan that uses photonics to illuminate parts of the tissue that are currently impossible to visualise.A European photonics research team is developing a new endoscope to scan for the early signs of bladder cancer.
Really cool, really efficient
Shrinking PCB areas mean system designers are opting for smaller passive components and up-integrated sensors in switched mode power designs, says Allegro as it introduces its 400kHz current sensors.
Virtual show focuses on positioning and motion control
With conferences and industry exhibitions currently on hold, Physik Instrumente (PI) has set up a virtual trade show to offer solutions to precision positioning and motion control challenges.
